Job Summary

Employee is expected to assist participants and coworkers through oral and written forms of communication systems. Will be required to use several office technologies to input and understand data. All duties are performed in strict adherence to HIPAA, including the privacy provisions and will require a working knowledge of other regulations governing benefit processing. The position requires some independent judgment in organizing assignments and work must meet minimum standards.

Essential Functions

  • Must be able to meet with Participants, sit and/or stand and use office business equipment and software for long periods of time
  • Must meet minimum expectations for Productivity and Departmental Work
  • Must produce quality work, and have good organizational skills
  • Must be able to follow simple directions and procedures
  • Must be able to follow through on simple assignments, and show initiative where appropriate
  • Must show problem-solving and critical thinking skills that a similarly experienced and trained employee would show
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks, and show adaptability and versatility
  • Must be able to learn basic job knowledge
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills, and the ability to maintain a professional demeanor under pressure
  • Must be able to adapt to office technology, including hardware and software
Position Requirements
  • Math Aptitude including 10-key adding machine and/or calculator
  • Typing proficiency at a level sufficient to complete required tasks accurately and in a timely manner
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness and ability to learn new technical skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor under pressure

Wages and Benefits In addition to the base wage which will range between $29.57 and $34.80 per hour during the first 12 months of employment, this position includes an excellent benefit package with an employer paid retirement plan. Carpenters Health and Welfare Trust Fund for California – health and welfare coverage for the employee and eligible dependents, currently the premium for the coverage is 100% covered by employer contributions – the current contribution rate is $14.37 per hour or $25,003.80 per year

Office and Professional Employees Pension Trust Fund – a defined benefit plan with a 5-year vesting period which will provide monthly payments to you for life during your retirement, current hourly contribution is $6.35 per hour Western States 401(k) Retirement Fund of the OPEIU – which you are able to participate in and make pre-tax contributions to as soon as your employment begins

Paid Vacation:
  • upon hire the employee will begin to accrue 2 weeks’ vacation per year
  • after 5 years of continuous service, the employee will begin to accrue 3 weeks’ vacation per year
  • after 10 years of continuous service, the employee will begin to accrue 4 weeks’ vacation per year
  • after 18 years of continuous service, the employee will begin to accrue 5 weeks’ vacation per year
Our office is located at 265 Hegenberger Road, Suite 100, Oakland, CA 94621-1480.
