Computational Chemist, Entry Level

Other Jobs To Apply

No other job posts for this day.

We are looking for a creative, self-motivated early-career computational chemist to join our team in Doylestown, PA. This is a hybrid or fully on-site position, with a minimum of two days per week on-site at the PA Biotech Center.

This is a learning-oriented role with substantial upside. The candidate will work directly alongside senior computational chemists who will train them in the modeling techniques used at Conifer Point. No prior experience with docking, QSAR, molecular dynamics, or related workflows is required. We are looking for a candidate with a strong foundation in chemistry, scientific curiosity, and a demonstrated ability to learn quickly and communicate well.

A successful candidate will be responsible for supporting client drug discovery programs through the application of computational techniques. This means using these computational tools to suggest new compounds, to understand how a drug binds its target, and to investigate the biology behind that target. Most projects involve a mix of structure-based, ligand-based, and AI-based methods.

The senior team will guide the candidate through these workflows, and over time the candidate will take on more independent project responsibility.

A significant portion of the role is client-facing. The candidate will turn results into clear presentations and deliver them over Zoom or in person.

Because Conifer

Point sits within the PA Biotech Center, the on-site candidate will interact regularly with neighboring biotech companies, and a substantial fraction of client meetings will happen face-to-face. Strong communication skills, scientific rigor, and the ability to translate technical results into clear design recommendations are central to success in this role.

Beyond the computational work, the candidate may have the opportunity to contribute in hands-on ways, including supplying and tracking recommended compounds and engaging with wet-lab activities such as protein expression and assay work. These experiences are intentionally broad. The position is structured to develop a well-rounded scientist with practical exposure across the drug discovery pipeline that is rarely available elsewhere at this career stage.

The candidate will also have access to the wider scientific community at the PA Biotech Center, including workshops, seminars, and guest speakers in drug discovery and molecular modeling.

Qualifications

Education:

B.S. or M.S. degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, chemical biology, or a related field, with 0–3 years of relevant experience. A computational emphasis is preferred but not required; candidates with a strong chemistry background and clear interest in computational drug discovery will be considered.

Required:

  • Fluency in English and strong scientific written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong foundational knowledge of organic chemistry, with working knowledge of biology and biochemistry as it relates to drug discovery
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new scientific and technical methods quickly
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and comfort presenting technical content to internal teams and external clients
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to scientific rigor
  • Authorization to work in the USA
  • Ability to work on-site at the PA Biotech Center in Doylestown, PA at least two days per week
Preferred (not required; training will be provided):
  • Coursework, research experience, or independent exposure to molecular modeling techniques such as docking, molecular dynamics, homology modeling, pharmacophore modeling, QSAR, or ligand- and structure-based design
  • Experience with the Schrödinger Drug Discovery Suite, PyMOL, or comparable tools
  • Experience in scientific programming (Python, JavaScript, C++, or Perl)
  • Wet-lab experience relevant to drug discovery (e.g., protein expression, purification, biochemical or biophysical assays)
  • Track record of presentations, posters, or publications
Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
