This role combines technical leadership with team development to drive scalable, secure, and efficient cloud environments while improving the speed, quality, and reliability of software delivery. As a key member of the Development Leadership Team, the Manager fosters a culture of automation and continuous improvement, enabling high-performing systems that support mission-critical applications. Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Team Development <ul> <li>Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing DevOps team focused on impact, ownership, and continuous improvement</li> <li>Develop and execute a strategy to upskill and transform traditional operations staff into modern DevOps practitioners</li> <li>Foster a culture of automation, accountability, and engineering excellence</li> <li>Partner closely with Engineering and Product leadership to align platform capabilities with delivery goals</li> <li>Serve as a key contributor to the Development Leadership Team, shaping engineering direction, standards, and practices</li> <li>Manage team performance through regular 1:1s, coaching, feedback, and career development planning</li> <li>Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to drive alignment and outcomes</li> </ul> DevOps Strategy & Execution <ul> <li>Define and execute a clear DevOps strategy aligned to business priorities and product goals</li> <li>Champion best practices across CI/CD, observability, reliability, and security</li> <li>Establish and track KPIs for delivery performance, reliability, and operational efficiency</li> <li>Drive improvements aligned to engineering performance metrics (e.g., deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate, uptime)</li> <li>Continuously improve deployment speed, system stability, and developer experience</li> <li>Lead major DevOps and infrastructure initiatives from design through production readiness</li> </ul> CI/CD & Automation (Technical Leadership) <ul> <li>Architect, implement, and optimize CI/CD pipelines to enable fast, reliable, and repeatable software delivery</li> <li>Serve as a technical authority on pipeline design, automation, and release engineering practices</li> <li>Standardize and scale build, test, and deployment processes across engineering teams</li> <li>Drive an automation-first mindset to eliminate manual processes and reduce operational overhead</li> </ul> Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Cloud Architecture <ul> <li>Lead and mature Infrastructure as Code practices using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, Terragrunt, and Bicep</li> <li>Design and manage scalable, secure, and resilient cloud infrastructure across Azure and AWS</li> <li>Ensure consistency, repeatability, and governance across environments</li> <li>Ensure infrastructure supports high-performing, scalable online experiences, including peak donation and campaign traffic</li> <li>Provide architectural guidance and governance for platform and infrastructure decisions</li> </ul> Cloud Cost Management & Optimization <ul> <li>Establish and enforce cloud cost governance practices across Azure and AWS</li> <li>Implement cost visibility and accountability across engineering teams</li> <li>Monitor, analyze, and optimize cloud spend to ensure efficient resource utilization</li> <li>Partner with Finance and Engineering leadership to align infrastructure investments with business value</li> </ul> Reliability, Security & Operations <ul> <li>Ensure high availability, performance, and scalability of production systems, supporting uptime targets and minimizing production incidents</li> <li>Ensure production systems reliably support critical customer-facing experiences, including online donation platforms</li> <li>Own monitoring, alerting, and incident response practices to ensure rapid detection and effective resolution</li> <li>Embed DevSecOps principles into pipelines and infrastructure</li> <li>Drive proactive improvements in system reliability, resilience, and operational readiness</li> </ul> Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. Key Requirements: <ul> <li>10+ years of experience in engineering, infrastructure, or DevOps roles</li> <li>3+ years of experience leading DevOps or platform teams</li> <li>Deep expertise in CI/CD systems (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)</li> <li>Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform strongly preferred)</li> <li>Experience with cloud platforms (Azure and/or AWS)</li> <li>Strong background in automation, scripting, and distributed system design</li> <li>Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)</li> <li>Proven ability to lead teams, influence engineering culture, and drive organizational change</li> </ul> Education and Experience: <ul> <li>Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience</li> <li>Experience working in SaaS or product-led environments preferred</li> <li>Experience transforming traditional operations teams into DevOps organizations preferred</li> <li>Experience with observability tools (e.g., New Relic, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana) preferred</li> <li>Familiarity with security and compliance in cloud environments preferred</li> <li>Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies</li> </ul> Compensation We believe great work deserves great rewards — and that when SofterWare succeeds, our team members should share in that success. This full-time, remote position offers a total compensation range of $170,000–$180,000 USD, depending on your experience and skills. Our compensation package is designed to recognize your contributions, reward outstanding performance, and support your long-term growth.
