SHC’s Piro Scholars Program is seeking an Independent Contractor Mental Health Therapist and Clinical Supervisor for the 2025-2026 school year. This therapist will collaborate closely with Piro Program Directors and the Wellness team to support the mental health and well-being of students who are first-generation, limited-income, or from underrepresented backgrounds. Responsibilities include providing long-term individual counseling, occasional group and family sessions, case management, and crisis intervention. The therapist plays a vital role in helping students navigate challenges and access the support they need to thrive.

Description of Services Sought:
The Piro Program Mental Health Therapist works directly with the Piro Program to support the overall health and well-being of students experiencing a wide variety of systemic challenges, including being first-generation, limited-income, or coming from underrepresented backgrounds. The Program Therapist focuses on providing long-term 1:1 therapy, occasional group therapy, occasional family meetings, case management, and crisis intervention for students in need, as well as collaborating with Wellness and Counseling programs on campus.
Role Responsibilities
- Contractor must provide individual therapy on campus for an identified caseload of students at least 2 days per week on campus.
- Provide weekly 1:1 meetings, case management, and/or crisis intervention services through 50-minute appointments.
- Timely response to student referrals from Program Directors.
- Provide culturally informed counseling, applying various therapeutic strategies for a diverse student population.
- Confidential receipt of information from students’ medical or mental health professional provider in the interests of continuing support for the student during the school day.
- Provide support and collateral services to parents/guardians of students on identified case load, as appropriate.
- Provides appropriate outside referrals in collaboration with larger support team for students in greater need of long-term mental health resources or learning difference resources.
- Collaborate with larger support team to help students and families navigate and access community mental health resources and referrals, including medical, mental health, and emergency care, when needed.
- Attend collaborative meetings twice a month to inform Piro and Wellness team of student progress and gain supportive feedback.
- Maintain appropriate notes on students in accordance with state and federal requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality, abiding by California law and clinical licensure, in all matters regarding student mental health.
- Recognize the importance of timely and effective responses to communication.
- Demonstrate professionalism and integrity, including appropriate boundaries with students, colleagues, parents, and community partners.
- Support the academic, co-curricular, and spiritual life of the school community.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Counseling or Psychology
- Licensed Ph.D., PsyD, LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC
- Qualified to provide Clinical Supervision of an Associate Therapist, in accordance with California BBS requirements, including holding clinical licensure for at least 2 years and having completed required 16 hours of supervisory training
- Must have own liability/malpractice insurance and platform for clinical documentation
Desired Qualifications
- Experience counseling adolescents
- Experience in a high school setting
- Bilingual in Spanish
Length in Term and Compensation:
- This is an Independent Contractor Position
- Contractor will provide an estimated 10-11.5 hours per school week of counseling and therapy services, including summer school months.
- Contractor shall be compensated in the amount of $150.00/hour
