Bard College seeks an International Student Advisor to join the Office of International Student and Scholar Services (OISSS). The position supports international students and serves an integral role as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternative Responsible Officer (ARO) by interpreting complex federal immigration regulations and providing high-level guidance to our international student community.
This is a full-time, exempt, 12 month-per-year position based on the Bard College campus in Annandale-on-Hudson. The International Student Advisor reports to the Director of Visa and Immigration Services.

Bard College’s main campus is in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y., with 1,900 undergraduate students; the College also includes multiple graduate programs. The 1,000-acre campus sits along the Hudson River and offers the Fisher Performing Arts Center, and Hessel Museum of Art, and is the home of the Bard Prison Initiative, the largest college-degree-granting prison education program in the U.S.

Responsibilities:
Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) for the F-1 visa program and as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the visitor program.
Assist international students regarding visa applications, travel, employment authorization and status maintenance.
Issue and update immigration documents (Form I-20, DS-2019) and report changes in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (or SEVIS) in accordance with federal regulations.
Monitor and document student enrollment status, address updates, and maintain documents and SEVIS records in compliance with federal regulations.
Assist with orientations, info sessions, and general communications related to international students.
Plan and coordinate events, activities, and programs that promote intercultural exchange and community engagement in collaboration with office colleagues.
Provide referrals to campus and community resources
Respond to inquiries from students, families, and external partners in a timely and professional manner.
Bachelor’s degree or Master’s preferred
Two years of experience advising students as a Designated School Official and/or Alternate Responsible Officer
As mandated by federal regulations, U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residence is required to be a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) to obtain approval to access the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
Experience with Terra Dotta ISSS preferred
Strong written and verbal communication
Professional demeanor with the ability to use discretion in handling confidential student immigration matters
Ability to interpret and effectively communicate regulations, policies and procedures
Excellent judgment, decision-making, critical thinking, and analytical skills
Detail oriented with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office and Google Suite.
Ability to communicate and build effective relationships in a diverse college community.
