Job Overview

Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse, working four 10-hour shifts from Monday through Thursday. In this vital role, you will provide exceptional pre-operative and post-anesthesia care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. Your expertise will ensure smooth transitions through the surgical continuum, promoting patient safety, comfort, and recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient condition through comprehensive physical examinations, vital signs monitoring, and detailed patient assessments prior to surgery.
  • Prepare patients for procedures by explaining processes, ensuring consent, and maintaining aseptic technique during patient care activities.
  • Administer medications including IV infusions, injections, and sedation as prescribed, following strict protocols and HIPAA regulations.
  • Manage airway support with skills in airway management techniques and ventilator monitoring to ensure optimal respiratory function.
  • Monitor patients’ recovery post-surgery or anesthesia in the PACU, observing for signs of acute pain or complications and intervening promptly.
  • Document all patient interactions accurately in electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, ensuring compliance with medical documentation standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care plans effectively.
Requirements
  • Valid RN license with current state registration and compliance with licensure requirements.
  • Proven experience in perioperative nursing, PACU, or critical care settings such as ICU or emergency medicine.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, and anatomy relevant to surgical care.
  • Skilled in aseptic technique, IV insertion, suturing assistance, specimen collection/processing, and infection control practices.
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with disabilities or developmental delays.
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations with excellent critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
