SUMMARY: A Lead Preschool Teacher is responsible for the education, daily care and recreation of children. Provide emergent, child-directed, developmentally appropriate activities in a Christian-based classroom, and must initiate and foster positive guidance and behavior management practices for children. Level II Teachers are expected to encourage their Level II Aides to become more involved in the class management as they mentor them in becoming qualified teachers.
A Lead Preschool Teacher must be able to engage and effectively communicate with parents/guardians, volunteers, and other staff members. This position requires high stamina and the physical ability to interact with young children, including standing, sitting, running, picking up a child from off the floor, and getting down on the ground at the children’s level. A Lead Preschool Teacher should also be able to maintain and run his/her classroom while in state regulated ratio of 1 adult to 10 children.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:An employee in this position is expected to exhibit a genuine liking and understanding of children and a desire to share the general foundations of Christian Faith with them.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Supervise and train Level I and II Aide’s in classroom routines and regulations
Train and mentor Assistant Teacher in all aspects of student instruction, curriculum and assessments
Follow and implement the pre-selected academic and biblical curriculums of Blossom Hills
Responsible for the maintenance of student and classroom records
Prepare instructional materials and supplies
Supervise the instruction of students
Assist children with bathroom skills or diapering
Maintain a clean, safe and cheerful environment
Supervise students in class, gym, playground and other areas
Attend Leadership Team Meeting
Attend staff meetings, special events and in-service trainings
Respect confidential information at all times
Maintain the classroom operation while in state regulated ratio
See that Blossom Hills and Oregon Child Care Division policies are observed at all times
Model personal behaviors of honesty, fairness, courtesy, consideration and Christian fellowship
Establishes and maintains positive and professional relationships with students, employees and families
Responds in a cooperative and positive manner to supervision and direction
Maintain all licenses and certificate requirements needed to maintain your professional standing
Achieves professional growth as required by Oregon Child Care Division and Blossom Hills through approved workshops and classes
Be alert and aware to all children, classroom activities, physical environment, and potential safety hazards at all times. (OAR 414-300-0130-3)
Other duties as assigned by the Director
EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
Completion of 20 semester credits or 30 quarter credits in Early Ed, Child Dev. OR
A one year state or nationally recognized credential (CDA) OR
Documented experience of at least 1500 hours (or 1 year) in a certified center OR
Documentation of attaining at least step 7 in the Oregon Registry AND
Required to obtain Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect Certificate, 1st Aid/CPR and Food Handler’s License within 90 days of hire AND
Required to maintain 15 hours of annual continuing education
If coming in with only experience and no Step, must be willing to work on obtaining a Step 6 on ORO within 3 months of hire
