A DAY IN THE LIFE:
Assists with the operations and activities of the Township Public Services Department, which includes the water distribution system, the sewer collection system, and the Township’s parks and recreational facilities, the non- motorized pathways, cemeteries, building and grounds and any other duties assigned by the Public Services Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Works with the Public Services Coordinator to assist families with the purchase or transfer of burial rights – includes meeting with grieving families, accompanying them to the cemetery if requested, and processing paperwork. Maintains records of cemetery lots sold, burials, and related cemetery records. Orders markers/monuments and vaults for cemetery contract holders. Schedules burials with either funeral homes or families. Works with monument companies, vault companies and funeral homes to ensure that all burials are handled professionally and courteously. Handles customer requests and complaints and answers questions regarding the cemeteries. Maintains spreadsheet of all cemetery contract holders for Township auditors.
Provides technical information to residents regarding utility bills and meter processes.
Generates work orders for final reads, seasonals, turn on/off, water/sewer inspections, and meter installations and replacements.
Processes all new water and wastewater taps. Assists contractors/property owners with water and wastewater tap applications and service line installation requirements. Contacts Miss Dig for all new water taps and emergency locate requests.
Works with the Public Services Coordinator on the Cross Connection Program Backflow Preventer Program.
Works with the Public Services Coordinator to act as a liaison between Public Services and the public regarding complaints and suggestions.
Maintains master schedule for park reservations. Provides information / answers questions regarding parks and pathways.
Performs administrative duties including word processing, data entry, mailings, spreadsheets, and general office duties. Prepares reports, memos, letters, and other documents, using word processing, spreadsheet, database, or presentation software. Enters, records, stores, or maintains information in written or electronic form. Files and retrieves Township documents, records, and reports.
Communicates with people outside the organization, represents the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources.
Ensures accuracy of customer accounts including mailing address service/meter and service line information.
Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or personal information.
Regular and reliable attendance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
Two (2) year college degree with additional courses in business and management.
Three (3) years’ experience in customer service.
Three (3) years’ experience in governmental operations.
Intermediate level in Microsoft Office Products and BS&A.
WHAT SKILLS you NEED:
Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and in person as appropriate for the needs of the recipient, including the ability to work with grieving families and irate customers.
Ability to understand and give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and asking questions as appropriate.
