The Applications Engineering Intern will develop technical expertise in Ansys Optics products, create simulation methodologies, and support product development teams while collaborating with global teams.
Responsibilities
Develop technical expertise in at least one Ansys Optics product: Lumerical, Speos, or Zemax
Create new simulation methodologies, troubleshoot problem set-ups, run simulation benchmarks, and update industry best practices for modeling and simulation of engineered products and processes
Develop scripts and automation routines to support customer workflows
Support the team by conducting demonstrations, webinars, online training, and other meetings as needed
Collaborate with product development teams to translate customer requirements into exciting new product features and test new releases of Ansys products on industrial problems
Assist in reviewing and updating online tutorial content
Write detailed technical reports and present results to global teams
Network within the Customer Excellence team to learn about pre-sales support, post-sales technical support, consulting services, and more
Skills
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Optical Sciences, Applied Physics, or a related field
Minimum 3.0 GPA in graduate studies, or 3.5 in undergraduate studies
Logical problem-solving abilities, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and fluency in written and spoken English
Currently enrolled as an engineering graduate student (M.S. or Ph.D.) in an accredited United States university (Ph.D. students should be entering third year or beyond of their program)
Experience with programming languages such as Matlab, Python, Mathematica, C++, or C#
Experience with programming repositories (e.g., GitHub, Mercurial), AI & LLMs (Copilot, Claude, Cursor, etc.), and customer-facing or leadership roles
Proficiency in developing learning plans and teaching in technical settings, and knowledge of CAD packages (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, Catia)
