The Retail Operations Assistant Supervisor is responsible for the daily supervision of all Retail Operations areas. This includes the training and daily supervision of all staff working within the department. This includes the ExploraStore, Endeavour Store, IMAX Theater Concession Stand, satellite store(s), the ATM, Donation Boxes, and all related stockroom areas. In addition, Assistant Supervisors are expected to be proficient and perform all the duties of a Sales Associate I & II, which includes serving guests, accurately using a cash register, properly preparing and serving food products, stocking and displaying resale products, cleaning and maintaining fixtures, equipment, and common areas, and monitoring and regulating guest traffic flow.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 2 years of business/retail experience, of which at least 1 year was supervisory
    experience.
  • Competency in POS cash register systems and personal computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Word,
    Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Friendly outgoing personality with strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills
    (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to relate to persons of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
  • Fulfill all requirements of a Sales Associate I & II.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and occasionally evenings.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide a positive physical presence on all departmental sales floors throughout the day to
    monitor and lead the Sales Associates to ensure the entire team is following Foundation policy
    and departmental procedures while providing all of our guests with excellent service.
  • Perform the daily opening and closing procedures for all Retail Operations areas, including the
    ExploraStore, Endeavour Store, IMAX Concession Stand, and all other Retail Operations
    areas. Accurately count out cash registers and prepare daily bank deposits promptly.
  • Order and provide change for all Sales Associates.
  • Maintain and balance the change fund, including freight drawers.
  • Per departmental guidelines, order, receive, and process all merchandise and food products.
  • The supervision, cleaning, and maintenance of the IMAX Theater Concession Stand, including
    the sales counter area, stockroom, office, and food prep areas, to ensure a rating no lower
    than an “A” is issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
  • Order and maintain proper general supply levels as well as food product inventory.
  • Perform the IMAX Concession Stand’s monthly product inventory count.
  • Maintain and balance any petty cash or purchasing fund(s) assigned to them.
  • Monitor, supervise, and coach staff regarding their daily work activities to maximize their
    overall productivity.
  • Inspire and motivate staff by setting an example of excellence for others to follow.
  • All Assistant Supervisors are required to adhere to a high standard in maintaining professional
    working relationships with staff and to appropriately set boundaries, avoid gossiping, and abide
    by high levels of confidentiality.
  • Assistant Supervisors are required to perform all their duties and tasks in a safe, accurate,
    effective, and professional manner within the established guidelines set by the department’s
    management team.
  • Handle all guest concerns in a professional, polite, courteous and constructive manner to
    ensure the delivery of a high-quality quality positive, memorable experience to all Science
    Center guests.
  • Handle merchandise returns and exchanges in an accurate and professional manner.
  • Participate in the department’s efforts to improve guest service, increase sales, and improve
    operating procedures by providing feedback and making recommendations while participating
    in departmental meetings and discussions.
  • Schedule and monitor departmental employee rest and meal breaks to ensure they are
    performed within Foundation guidelines.
  • Provide regular updates on employee performance to senior management.
  • Supervise and ensure all Retail Operations staff are adhering to California Science Center
    Foundation policies as well as Retail Operations departmental procedures and directives.
  • According to their workstation, all staff are required to frequently sanitize and disinfect
    common surfaces (for example, phones, radios, keyboards, pin pads, countertops, computer
    mouse, call-bells, screen monitors, Plexiglas shields, and other surfaces).
  • Assistant Supervisors are required to be proficient in and perform all the duties of a Sales
    Associate I & II. These duties include but are not limited to: (a) serving guests, (b) accurately
    using a cash register, (c) stocking out merchandise, (d) cleaning and maintaining store
    common areas, and (e) monitoring and regulating guest traffic flow.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as required.

COMPENSATION

$18.87 - $19.40 / Hour
