Employment Opportunity 2026 Step Up to 6th Grade Position 2 Teachers at McDevitt 2 Teachers at Kennedy Responsibilities Must hold a MA DESE teaching license. Preference will be given to those certified in the content being taught. Facilitate a structured learning environment for daily instruction on MESH power standards. Description of Program The 6th grade step up Program is intended for current 5th grade students from any Waltham Elementary School who will be attending McDevitt or Kennedy as a 6th grader in the fall. Step UP support identified students in the transition from 5th to 6th grade. This program incorporates time for academics such as summer reading, mathematics, as well as social emotional learning like community building. Students will have a chance to familiarize themselves with expectations of the middle school setting. Site Location: Kennedy Middle School or McDevitt Middle School Compensation Contractual rate of $40 per hour for up to a total of 110 hours for the summer (may be less if job sharing) for a total of up to $4400. Terms of Employment The summer program will be held from July 6th to August 6th. Program times for students will be Monday - Thursday. Work consists of 4 hours of daily teaching, 30 minutes of supervision of students, and 1 hour of prep daily for 19 days (no prep on the last day of summer school). There will be a 1 hour prep meeting with the site coordinator prior to summer school. Preparation during summer school may take place on site or from home. Job sharing is allowable to be determined by hiring managers.
