POSITION TITLE: Middle School Counselor FLSA: Exempt Professional REPORTS TO: Principal Overview The school guidance program assists students in becoming responsible students. Continuous attention is given to assisting students to develop competence in social skills, emotional and behavioral health, decision-making, career planning, working with others, and taking responsibility for their own behavior. Qualifications 3 or more years of Middle School Teaching experience preferred. Missouri Counseling Certificate required School Counseling experience preferred. Demonstrated success in mediation & relationship building. Knowledge of Missouri’s Model Guidance Program. Understanding of small group and individual counseling methods. Essential Job Functions Implement the guidance curriculum. Guide and counsel groups of individual students through the development of social skills, educational and career plans. Counsel small groups and individual students with problems. Consult with teachers, staff and parents regarding the developmental needs of students. Other Job Functions Attend all meetings and training sessions as directed. Attend IEP and 504 meetings according to caseload. Conduct and develop 504 evaluations and plans.
