Job Description
JOB OVERVIEW The Accounting Manager will review financial activities and transactions such as monthly financial statements, annual budgeting processes, oversight of financial reviews/controls/audits, and performing high-level business analysis. A critical component of this role includes applying strategic financial insight to identify and design new sources of revenue, ensuring the long-term profitability and growth of the sports complex. The ideal candidate functions as a strategic partner to management, translating complex financial data into actionable initiatives that maximize the facility's earning potential. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following: Supervise the overall closing process monthly; ensure books are closed accurately and all venue level financial transactions are performed in a timely manner. Ensure proper controls are in place and monitored throughout to maximize profits or minimize losses by retaining revenues, reducing expenses and safeguarding assets. Oversee the compliant financial statement preparation process. Perform financial analysis and investigate variances on financial statements. Perform internal audits to assess compliance with financial regulations and controls by executing review/audit program steps; testing general ledger, account balances, balance sheets, income statements, and related financial statements; examining and analyzing records, reports, operating practices, and documentation. Manage month-end and year-end closing processes. Review all venue systems and internal controls for weaknesses; implement changes as needed. Ensure efficient and accurate budget preparation. Management of cash transfers among accounts. Process ACH and wire payments. Make payments for the sales and use tax and withhold payments for professional services. Prepare the quarterly filing reports for the professional services withholding’s taxes. File annual 480 reports. Address any compliance issues with the Puerto Rico Treasury Department including managing tax compliance audits. Ensure compliance with tax regulations and oversee the preparation of tax returns. Implement tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities. Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic planning and business development initiatives. Collaborate with senior management to develop long-term financial goals and strategies. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES Bachelor’s Degree Accounting/Finance or relevant certification is a must. Previous accounting experience and supervisory experience is a must. Prior experience with tax compliance reporting. Proficient in financial management systems or/and accounting systems such as QuickBooks. Well organized and able to manage multiple projects on a routine basis. Strong management, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Comfortable in a dynamic and fast paced environment. Minimum 2 years’ experience in accounting functions. Strong business communications skills verbal and written. Knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws and regulations. Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office.
