Job Description
This role is responsible for leading accounting activities related to insurance operations, including financial reporting, close processes, regulatory filings, and audit coordination. You will serve as a key point of contact for both internal stakeholders and external auditors, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and consistency across all reporting frameworks. Hybrid 3 days/week in New York, NY 10019 Key Responsibilities Oversee end-to-end insurance accounting activities under both GAAP and statutory (SAP) reporting frameworks Interpret and apply accounting guidance to complex insurance-related transactions and ensure appropriate treatment Coordinate with internal finance, actuarial, and operations teams to compile and support financial reporting deliverables Lead preparation and review of statutory filings and GAAP financial reporting schedules Manage the annual statutory audit process and serve as a primary liaison with external audit firms Ensure adherence to all applicable regulatory reporting requirements, including state insurance departments and industry regulatory bodies Monitor updates to insurance accounting standards and regulatory changes, assessing and implementing impacts as needed Support ad hoc finance initiatives, process improvements, and special projects as assigned Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline Active CPA license required 5+ years of progressive experience in insurance accounting, including both GAAP and statutory reporting Strong knowledge of insurance industry accounting principles and regulatory frameworks Experience working with insurance financial reporting and consolidation systems (e.g., industry-standard statutory reporting tools or equivalent platforms) Strong analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across finance, audit, and operational teams Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred, including mentoring or developing accounting staff Benefits Competitive compensation aligned with experience Comprehensive health benefits (medical, dental, vision) Retirement savings plan with employer contribution Paid time off and recognized holidays Learning and professional development support, including tuition assistance Collaborative team environment with opportunities for advancement and career growth
