STARTING PAY:$14.00 per hour (DOQ) Responsibilities:Is responsible for the administrative assistant duties of the Homicide Unit.DESCRIPTION OF WORK:Under supervision and in accordance with procedures, files documents; enters data in a computer; types documents; distributes correspondence and inter office communication.DUTIES EXAMPLES OF WORK:Enters and maintains unit data and stats in database and spreadsheets; keeps tracks of case files and locations; files correspondence; searches for specific incident reports or information in the computer; obtains criminal histories for investigator; types status change forms; distributes all other inter departmental information and mail; completes travel request and payment vouchers; maintains purchase request and receipts; orders supplies, backup for payroll; other duties as assigned.Must be proficient in using Microsoft Office.MINIMUM Qualifications:Previous experience as an administrative assistant.Prior to being accepted for this position, the applicant must successfully complete a background check, polygraph exam and drug screen.REQUIRED SKILLS INCLUDE:Applicant must have the ability to read, write, and speak the English language at a high school graduate level; must be a high school graduate or have a GED or 12 hours from an accredited college with a grade point average of 2.0 or higher; must have normal hearing or corrected to normal in both ears; ability to follow written and verbal instructions; ability to work under stressful conditions; ability to occasionally work overtime.Ability to create and enter data into databases.PREFERRED Qualifications:One (1) year of administrative assistant experience with the Amarillo Police Department or two (2) 2 years of experience with another law enforcement agency; job related college courses; one (1) year data entry experience.ADA PROFILE:Reasonable accommodation will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is required to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.The employee is also required to finger, grasp, handle, life walk, stand, hear, crouch, reach, speak, see, and talk.Also requires the ability to make rational decisions and perform repetitive motions.WORK ENVIRONMENT:The employee works in a safe and secure indoor work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.The City of Amarillo is an Equal Opportunity employer and encourages applications from eligible and qualified persons regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, age, gender, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, familial status, disability, genetic information or protected veteran status, in compliance with applicable federal, state and local law.The City of Amarillo provides reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities on a case by case basis.If you need a reasonable accommodation for any part of the application or hiring process, please contact the Human Resources Office at 806-378-4294.About Us Start your career with the City of Amarillo today!
