Job Description
General Summary The Oncology Nurse Coordinator supports physicians and mid-level providers by delivering comprehensive assessment, treatment, testing, and education for oncology patients. This role is vital in coordinating all aspects of oncology and hematology care plans, ensuring patient safety and adherence to established protocols. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Manage and coordinate oncology and hematology treatment plans, maintaining a clean and safe environment. Conduct ongoing evaluations of patient care plans and prepare patients for appointments by screening and ensuring all necessary assessments and test results are complete. Update and verify medication lists in collaboration with providers. Document patient care accurately in medical records. Assist with examinations and procedures within scope of practice. Coordinate care with internal and external ancillary services, including specialty pharmacies and supportive services. Provide counseling and education to patients and families on all aspects of oncology and hematology, including preventive measures. Maintain authorization for medications and procedures, oversee medication samples, and ensure safe administration of treatments. Assist with crash cart maintenance and ensure availability of medical supplies. Coordinate inpatient and outpatient procedures and admissions, ensuring sterile instruments and proper protocol adherence. Access implanted ports using sterile techniques. Collaborate with multidisciplinary care teams to maintain a safe continuum of care. Document investigational protocol information and ensure patient understanding of investigational drug materials. Maintain ongoing oncology education as required by accrediting bodies. Demonstrate accountability, adaptability, and professionalism under pressure while meeting attendance and punctuality standards.
