Job Description
Mercy is seeking a motivated and academically advanced Radiology Intern to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team and gain immersive, hands-on experience in a high-acuity clinical environment. As an Advanced Radiology Intern, you will work closely with registered radiologic technologists, radiologists, and interdisciplinary care teams to support the delivery of safe, accurate, and compassionate diagnostic imaging services for patients across a wide range of ages and conditions. In this role, you will assist with patient preparation for imaging procedures, helping to verify patient identity, explain exams in clear and reassuring language, and promote comfort and dignity throughout the visit. Under the direct supervision of licensed staff and in alignment with your education and competency level, you will support positioning of patients for X-ray and other imaging studies, assist with room setup and equipment checks, and help ensure images meet basic quality standards for diagnostic review. You will learn to navigate radiology information systems and picture archiving systems, accurately enter and verify exam data, and handle protected health information in strict compliance with HIPAA and Mercy policies. The Advanced Radiology Intern will be expected to consistently apply radiation safety principles, including ALARA guidelines, proper use of shielding, and unit-specific safety protocols, while maintaining a clean, orderly, and infection-controlled environment. You will collaborate with technologists to monitor supply levels, restock rooms, and prepare contrast and ancillary equipment as allowed by policy, supporting efficient workflow and timely patient throughput. With mentorship from experienced professionals, you will deepen your understanding of imaging modalities such as radiography, CT, MRI, and ultrasound, and observe advanced procedures to connect your academic training with real-world clinical practice. This position offers a unique opportunity to build clinical judgment, refine communication skills, and practice professional conduct in a fast-paced radiology department. You will frequently interact with patients, families, and multidisciplinary colleagues, demonstrating empathy, cultural sensitivity, and respect for diverse backgrounds and needs. Documentation in the electronic health record and radiology systems must be accurate, timely, and complete, reflecting Mercy’s standards for quality and safety. At Mercy, you will be part of a mission-driven organization that prioritizes compassionate care, diversity, and respect. Our culture emphasizes teamwork, open communication, and continuous improvement, making it an ideal environment for interns who are eager to learn, accept feedback, and grow into confident healthcare professionals. You will have access to learning opportunities such as in-service trainings, case discussions, and exposure to emerging imaging technologies that support your academic progress and future certification goals. Mercy offers a competitive internship compensation package with access to comprehensive benefits for eligible positions, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, retirement savings with 401k options, and resources that support your overall wellbeing. As an Advanced Radiology Intern, you will play a meaningful role in enhancing patient care while developing the technical, clinical, and professional skills that will position you for future roles in radiologic technology and advanced imaging specialties.
