Job Description
General Summary Under the supervision of a licensed nurse (RN, LPN, or shift manager), the Patient Care Assistant (PCA) delivers direct patient care with compassion and attention to safety. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Adheres to established safety protocols including infection prevention and safe patient handling. Provides fundamental patient care tasks such as monitoring vital signs, glucometer checks, assisting with toileting, feeding, bathing, and mobility. Performs these duties following hospital policies to ensure quality outcomes and patient safety. Collaborates closely with nursing staff to meet patient needs promptly, enhancing the overall patient experience. Accurately documents all care activities to support clinical decision-making and communicates relevant patient information to the healthcare team to improve outcomes. Education High school diploma or GED preferred. Experience One year of experience preferred. Certification/License Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential preferred. Candidates without certification or with less than one year of experience are required to complete a PCA training academy. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment; training is provided. Mental/Physical Requirements Requires considerable mental focus. Physical demands include lifting up to 35 lbs., turning, standing, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, reaching, and frequent walking. Working Conditions Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids. Occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur.
