The city offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, optional life, AD&D, and FSA plans.This office also supplies wellness programs, support groups, and workshops.You can learn about our benefits here:https://humanresources.baltimorecity.gov/hr-divisions/benefits Job Summary:An Animal Enforcement Officer drives an animal transport truck and responds to a variety of service calls related to animals including calls to retrieve animals in severe distress and deceased animals.An Animals Enforcement Officer investigates allegations of animal abuse and neglect, takes steps to remove abused or endangered animals from homes and owners, and transports animals safely to the City's shelter or to emergency care.Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities; however, they are paired with and assist other officers and may assist in the training of new officers.Incumbents receive moderate supervision from an administrative superior.Employees in this class work a rotating shift that includes 24-hour-per-day, seven days-a-week coverage.Work is performed outdoors where the incumbents are exposed to such conditions as inclement weather and dead, diseased or dangerous animals and may involve hostile situations.Work requires such moderate to heavy physical exertion as bending and lifting and pulling or carrying small to large domestic animals including wildlife.Minimum Qualifications:On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:Education:Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.AND Experience:Have one year of experience in handling animals.OR Equivalency Notes:Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.Two years of experience as a law enforcement officer may be substituted for one year of experience in handling animals.Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates:Previous appointment by the Baltimore City Police Commissioner as a Special Enforcement Officer under Baltimore City Code, Article 19 Police Ordinances, Subtitle 71 OR designation by the Agency Head as a Code Enforcement Officer under Baltimore City Code, Article 1, Mayor and City Council and Municipal Agencies, Subtitle 40.Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver's permit.PROVISIONAL DRIVER'S LICENSE OR LEARNER PERMITS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.NOTE:YOU MUST UPLOAD A COPY OF YOUR VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE WITH APPLICATION AT TIME OF APPLYING.NOTE:Incumbents in this class will be required to receive a pre-exposure rabies vaccination upon beginning employment and as often as required to maintain immunity.NOTE:Those eligibles who are under final consideration for appointment to this class will be required to authorize the release of criminal conviction information.
