Job Description
The AMAP is responsible for following all the policies and procedures of the ARC of Harrison County as outlined in the policy and procedure manual (Number:B-043, Pages 1-9.) 1.The AMAP will administer medications per ARC policy/procedure and AMAP guidelines.2.The AMAP maintains communication with the Supervising AMAP RN who is notified immediately if there are any issues of concern.Issues of concern may include but are not limited to:-Any changes in medical condition is noticed.-The pharmacy label does not match the MAR (Medication Administration Record).-Disposal of medication(s) is needed.-Medications appear unusual.-Any deviation of the six rights of medication administration.-Medications are discontinued.-A participant refuses a medication and/or the inability of the AMAP to awaken a participant resulting in a missed dose of medication.-There is any question about an as needed medication.-Obtain authorization prior to administering any PRN medications.-There is any doubt or question about any part of the medication administration process.-Medications that are not available at the prescribed time.3.The AMAP maintains and protects the confidentiality and privacy regarding participants' health information.4.The AMAP will respect the rights of the participant and the participant's family.5.The AMAP will work cooperatively with other team members to carry out the goals and objectives of the participant's IPP.6.The AMAP will understand and implement the agency's philosophy, policies, and mission.7.The AMAP will develop and foster a professional relationship with the participant based on mutual respect and trust.8.The AMAP will immediately report any actual or suspected abuse/neglect in accordance with policy and procedures.9.The AMAP must be familiar with and understand the medication delivery system used which includes:individual tablets or capsules in individual foil sealed bubbles with between 30 and 120 tablets per individual drug card for each individual drug; individual prescription bottles containing tablets, capsules, eye drops or ointments each labeled as directed by law for each individual participant for each drug; pharmacy labeled liquid containers individualized for each participant; minimal over the counter containers labeled with each individual participant's name for each container and for each drug.10.The AMAP must complete all required documentation and records on an on-going basis.11.The AMAP will complete duties, within scope of practice, assigned by RN supervisor.12.The AMAP must follow all regulations and requirements pertaining to unlicensed personnel for appropriate preparation and administration of medication.13.Residents identification will be done by introduction to the participant by a current staff member, nursing staff, or Arc manager.Follow the six Rights:14.Right participantRight medicationRight routeRight timeRight doseRight record (documentation 15.The AMAP is responsible for following the medication pass schedule.Medication is to be given on time.If unable to complete med pass on time, notify RN immediately.If calling off work or needing time off, notify RN immediately so coverage can be obtained in a timely manner.Although rare, requested time/days off, may not be granted if coverage not available.Education and/or Experience High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED); Complete 40hour AMAP class and pass AMAP examination with approval from RN, Complete quarterly medication administration reviews with RN, and recertify every two years per AMAP policy/RN.
