Primary Purpose The Armed Security Guard position is responsible for maintaining security of their assigned post through monitoring, surveillance, access control, and patrol activities. The position assists visitors and staff, monitors for suspicious behavior, and responds appropriately during emergencies. Education and Qualification Requirements 19 Years or Older High School Diploma or equivalent Maintain a valid Florida security class G license Qualify annually with agency issued firearm Pass the annual SJSO Physical Test Valid Florida Driver's License Ability to operate a computer and job-related software Must pass a Psychological Test Duties Monitor designated areas observing the activities of individuals in and around agency facilities. Analyze situations to determine whether suspicious activity requires a sworn deputies response. Verify visitor identity and grant or deny access to facilities as appropriate Log entries and directing visitors to appropriate locations Log Tools In and out of Secure Areas Conduct searches of bags, briefcases, and personal items Operate a magnetometer and/or screening equipment Communicates in person, by radio, and by phone Operate an agency vehicle to patrol facilities and assigned locations Conduct routine foot patrols of exterior doors, perimeters, and access points All other duties as assigned Job Controls and Complexities Report directly to a supervisor Adhere to laws, agency policies, rules, regulations, SOPs, and procedures Work involves multiple locations and varied security requirements within correctional and law enforcement environments Maintain confidentiality/security of files and information obtained in the
