Job Description
Creston Games is an independent studio where the soul of indie development meets the rigor of AAA quality. We're don’t follow the trends, we are a global collective dedicated to hand-crafting evocative experiences that challenge genre conventions and bring something truly new to the medium. Our philosophy is built on human craft over corporate formulas. We prioritize a "deep work" environment, valuing focus and creative autonomy over endless meetings and bureaucracy. Whether we are building expansive worlds or intimate systems, our mission is to deliver games that feel intentional, high-fidelity, and unmistakably ours. Currently, we are pushing the boundaries of the cooking genre with a semi-open world project that blends modular urban design with emergent gameplay. If you are looking to leave a mark on a project built with care from the ground up, we’d love to hear from you. Note: This is a revenue share position, compensation will be based on revenue sharing, rather than an upfront salary. Job Description: As the Art Director , you will be the guardian of our game’s visual soul. Your mission is to take our current high-fidelity, semi-stylized aesthetic and elevate it to a world-class level of polish and cohesion. You are not just a manager; you are a visionary who can unify the work of environment artists, animators, and technical artists into one singular, breathtaking experience. We need a leader who can define the "final look", ensuring every asset, shader, and light source aligns with our artistic pillar. You will have the autonomy to direct our visual identity, turning complex urban environments and cooking mechanics into a beautiful, intentional, and high-fidelity masterpiece. Key Responsibilities: Define and maintain the overall visual style, ensuring a cohesive look across environment art, characters, UI, and VFX. Provide high-level creative direction and hands-on feedback to a global team of artists to achieve a "AA indie" level of polish. Lead the "final visual unification" phase, ensuring all assets integrate seamlessly and reflect the project's artistic pillars. Establish visual benchmarks for lighting, color theory, and environmental storytelling to enhance the game’s atmosphere. Collaborate closely with Technical Artists to ensure our aesthetic goals are met within the technical constraints of Unity. Drive the creation of style guides and visual documentation to empower the team and streamline the creative process. Act as the final authority on visual quality, ensuring every frame of the game feels intentional and evocative. Qualifications: Proven experience as an Art Director, Lead Artist or Senior Artist with a portfolio. Strong background in stylized or semi-stylized art direction for high-fidelity games. Deep knowledge of modern game art pipelines (modeling, texturing, lighting, and engine integration). Exceptional ability to provide clear, constructive, and inspiring visual feedback to a remote, international team. A strong "finisher" mindset with a relentless eye for detail and visual polish. A leadership style that thrives in a remote, asynchronous, and "deep work" focused studio culture. Nice to Have: Experience directing the look of semi-open world or systemic multiplayer games. Hands-on skills in lighting or concept art to help visualize high-level ideas. Familiarity with Unity’s rendering capabilities and shader effects. What We Offer: A seat in a creative, international collective of veteran developers. A culture that respects deep work, avoiding unnecessary meetings and bureaucracy. A core role where you earn a direct share of the revenue, ensuring your contribution is reflected in the project's success. The freedom to define and evolve the game’s visual DNA without the constraints of traditional corporate gatekeeping.
