Job Description
Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings.Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.A full-time ASL Language Facilitator or Sign Language Interpreter position is available from August 27, 2026, to June 11, 2027, serving a diverse urban school district in Bridgeport, CT.This role involves working 32.5 hours per week in a 1:1 setting, providing direct support to students by tutoring, ensuring comprehension of academic materials, supporting ASL communication, and helping build students' ASL vocabulary.Key Responsibilities:Deliver individualized ASL facilitation and tutoring to students, tailored to their comprehension needs.Support communication between students and educators using American Sign Language.Collaborate with teachers and specialists to develop strategies that enhance student learning.Help build and expand students' ASL vocabulary and language skills.Participate in a virtual interview process to determine the best student match, ranging from elementary or potentially older students.Qualifications and Experience:Fluency in American Sign Language is essential.Experience working in a school setting is highly preferred.RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) certification and/or EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) scores are preferred but not mandatory.Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, educators, and families.Ability to assess and adapt to the needs of individual students.Position Details:Location:Bridgeport, CT Contract role aligned with the academic calendar.Two openings available:one student is elementary level; the other level to be determined during interview.Compensation:Certified candidates with RID/EIPA credentials:$38-$45 per hour.Non-certified but fluent ASL candidates:$30-$37 per hour.This position offers an opportunity to impact students' educational experience and language development in a rewarding school environment.Interested applicants who meet the qualifications are encouraged to apply to contribute their expertise as language facilitators.#p31.
