Job Description
The Position Why join the Contra Costa County Assessor's Office? The Contra Costa County Assessor’s Office discovers and assesses all property within the County; produces and delivers an assessment roll by July 1 of each year; values all real property; audits all entities doing business in the County and values all taxable personal property; establishes and maintains over 12,000 maps for assessment purposes; delineates every parcel of land in the County; and provides a public information service to assist taxpayers with questions about property ownership and assessment. The Contra Costa County Assessor’s Office is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill two (2) permanent, full-time Assessor’s Mapping Technician positions within the mapping division. This position plays a vital role in the creation and maintenance of the Assessor’s mapping data. Assessor’s Mapping Technicians are responsible for performing technical mapping and drafting duties using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) systems, and other mapping technologies. They create, maintain, and update spatial and cartographic data for property assessment and public use. This position requires you to interact with internal and external stakeholders as a representative of the County. Analytical. You will analyze and interpret data and legal descriptions and present the information clearly and professionally. An individual with strong time management skills. You will need to use your time efficiently, prioritize and plan work activities, and manage assignment deadlines. Detail-oriented. You will be reviewing specifications and plans that require a keen eye and review. Customer-focused. Your role will require you to be responsive and proactive when addressing customer needs. What you will typically be responsible for: Creating and updating subdivision maps, parcel maps, land survey maps, and right-of-way information. Conducting data modeling and integration with spatial layers. Creating and maintaining geo-referenced databases, maps, and spatial data using Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to ensure accurate parcel representation and integration between systems. Maintaining and updating parcel fabric layers, geodatabases, and other GIS data layers by collecting and verifying information from Assessor’s Office staff, other agencies, and source documents such as parcel maps, legal descriptions, and recorded deeds. Incorporating newly created or revised maps and plans into existing digital base map files to maintain version control and data consistency. Performing standard spatial operations and analyses, such as buffering, overlays, and distance calculations, using established GIS tools and methods. Responding to inquiries from County departments, public agencies, and the public regarding assessment maps, parcel divisions, addresses, and related spatial information; provideing customer service and prepares custom maps or data extracts as requested.
