Job Description
Assistant Police Chief The City of Oxnard Police Department is seeking an Assistant Police Chief. The Assistant Police Chief serves as a key member of the executive team, helping lead the Department and drive our strategic priorities. This position provides day-to-day oversight and administration of a department bureau and its personnel, ensuring operational effectiveness, accountability, and alignment with our mission. The Assistant Police Chief works in close partnership with the Chief and command staff to support sound decision-making, strengthen organizational performance, and maintain the highest level of service to our community. Under direction from the Chief of Police: directs, coordinates and supervises the activities and operations of bureaus within the Police Department; coordinates activities with other City Departments and outside agencies or organizations; establishes bureau and Department goals, objectives, policies and procedures in accordance City's mission statement and goals; provides technical staff assistance to the Police Chief; assumes command of the Police Department in the absence of the Police Chief; performs related duties as required. The Assistant Police Chief is the management level class responsible for the activities and operations of major sections of the Police Department, including the Field Services Bureau, Investigative Services Bureau, and the Administrative Services Bureau. This classification is distinguished from the next lower classification of Police Commander by performance of the duties related to the administration of Department bureau(s) versus a division. Incumbents in this class assume command of the Police Department in the absence of the Chief of Police. General direction is provided by the Police Chief. Responsibilities include direct supervision of all levels of Department personnel. The normal work week is Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM- 5:00 PM. This position is responsi
