Assistant Teacher

The Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher in the daily programming for children enrolled at St.Joseph Child Care Center.The status for this position will be for either full or part time employment.The role includes helping to provide developmentally appropriate practices and high quality early care and education in a manner that is reflective of the Felician Sisters' Core Values for Ministry (Respect for Human Dignity, Compassion, Justice & Peace, Solidarity with People in Need, and Transformation).The Assistant Teacher performs his/her duties in partnership with the classroom Lead Teacher to ensure that the needs of children and their families are understood and communicated.Qualifications:High School Diploma Early childhood education or related field preferred Exemplary interpersonal, collaborative and planning skills Interest and ability to support children and their families Ability to work cooperatively with people in and outside of the classroom Ability to respond positively to work direction and guidance from others The Assistant Teacher shall be a sensitive and mature person who has experience working with young children (infant-6 years) in addition to the following:Relates to infants, other children and adults in a caring manner Strives to meet the needs of children and their families in child care related areas Ability to work independently, managing multiple demanding tasks under critical timeframes Criminal background check required Required attendance - Protecting God's Children Training Demands (Physical and Special):Ability to sit (25%), walk/stand (75%), routinely throughout the shift.Must be able to periodically lift up to 50 lbs.Must have functional senses/manual dexterity to carry out the job; communicate effectively; and use of office equipment.Must have the ability to deal effectively with the stress of managing emergency/critical situations and multiple tasks.Knowledge of child development (infant - 6 years) Knowledge of grammar and spelling for daily verbal and written communication Ability to keep confidences regarding staff, parents & children Environmental Conditions:Performs duties with exposure to infectious or communicable diseases inherent to the care of children Occasional exposure to loud or unpleasant voices due to unpredictable behavior of children Daily exposure to outdoor elments (sun, wind, cold, etc) Stewardship:Demonstrate adherence to Felician Sisters Child Care Centers, Inc., State of Michigan Licensing Rules for Childcare Centers, Great Start to Readiness Preschool requirements, as well as policies of St.Joseph Child Care Center Use resources in a cost-effective manner and manage own work activities efficiently and effectively Demonstrate initiative and seek opportunities to enhance performance Pay:From $15.00 per hour Benefits:Dental insurance Employee discount Health insurance Health savings account Life insurance Paid time off Retirement plan Vision insurance Education:High school or equivalent (Required) Ability to Commute:Pontiac, MI 48341 (Required) Work Location:In person.
