Attorney - Tax, Business and Estate Planning Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Attorney specializing in tax, business and estate planning to advise high-net-worth individuals, families, fiduciaries and closely held businesses. The ideal candidate will design and implement sophisticated wealth transfer strategies, prepare and review estate and gift tax filings, manage trust and probate matters, provide tax litigation representation when necessary, and coordinate with valuation professionals, CPAs and financial advisors to deliver integrated planning and administration solutions. Key Responsibilities Advise clients on comprehensive estate planning strategies, including wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, SLATs, QPRTs, ILITs, and family limited partnerships (FLPs). Prepare and review estate, gift and fiduciary tax filings including Form 709 (Gift Tax), Form 706 (Estate Tax) and Form 1041 (Fiduciary Income Tax). Counsel clients on gift tax, estate tax, generation-skipping transfer (GST) tax, wealth transfer strategies, and asset protection techniques. Handle estate and trust administration and probate matters, including fiduciary duties, trust administration, inventory, accountings, distributions and estate settlement tasks. Perform tax research and analysis to support planning recommendations, compliance positions and contested matters. Represent clients in tax controversies and tax litigation at administrative and judicial levels when required. Design and implement succession planning for business owners and closely held entities, coordinating entity restructuring, buy-sell agreements and tax-efficient transfers. Coordinate valuation and appraisal processes for complex assets, including working with appraisers, business valuation experts and accountants. Provide Medicaid planning and elder law counseling related to asset protection, long-term care planning and eligibility strategies. Develop life insurance planning solutions, including integration with ILITs and other wealth transfer vehicles. Work collaboratively with CPAs, financial planners, trustees, executors and other advisors to deliver integrated client service. Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and paralegals, manage engagement budgets, and maintain accurate matter records and billing. Participate in business development and client relationship management, including presentations, seminars and client outreach. Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active WSBA admission. LL.M. in Taxation, or equivalent advanced tax credential, is highly desirable. Minimum 3 years of experience practicing tax, estate planning, trusts and estate administration; experience with complex wealth transfer matters preferred. Proven experience preparing and filing Forms 709, 706 and 1041 and handling related tax compliance matters. Demonstrated expertise with trusts (including SLATs, QPRTs, ILITs), wills, probate, Trustee/executor duties, and trust administration. Substantive knowledge of gift tax, estate tax, GST tax, fiduciary duties, asset protection strategies and succession planning. Experience with tax research, tax planning and tax controversy/litigation matters; strong analytical and legal writing skills. Familiarity with valuation and appraisal coordination for complex assets, and experience working with CPAs and valuation experts. Experience advising on life insurance planning, Medicaid and elder law planning is a plus. Strong client-facing skills, ability to manage complex matters, lead teams, and work effectively in multidisciplinary advisory settings. High ethical standards, attention to detail, excellent communication skills and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
