Job Overview Sales Manager position is a leadership role responsible for the overall success and profitability of the dealership's sales department. This multifaceted position balances team management, strategic planning, and customer satisfaction. Responsibilities Team Leadership & Management : Hiring, training, motivating, and monitoring the performance of the sales team. This includes setting sales goals, tracking progress, and providing ongoing coaching. Sales Strategy & Analysis : Developing and implementing effective sales strategies based on market trends and sales data analysis. They track sales figures, forecast future sales, and create reports for general management. Inventory Management : Working with the general sales manager to manage new and used vehicle inventory levels, ordering new stock, and ensuring prompt reconditioning of used vehicles. Customer Relations : While they don't handle every customer, managers step in to negotiate deals, resolve customer complaints, and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction to foster repeat business and referrals. Operations & Compliance : Collaborating with other departments like Finance & Insurance (F&I) and Service to streamline operations, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with all legal and dealership policies. Detailed Daily Tasks Morning Meetings & Goal Setting : The day often starts with morning meetings to review previous day's performance, set daily goals for the team, discuss inventory highlights, and motivate staff. "Working the Desk" (Deal Structuring) : A significant portion of the day is spent directly supporting sales consultants by structuring deals, appraising trade-ins (often using tools like MMR, KBB, ACV), and negotiating prices with customers. Customer Interaction : Managers frequently step in to handle customer questions, resolve escalated complaints, and build rapport to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, which is a core part of the dealership's philosophy. Inventory Management : The manager ensures a balanced stock of new and used vehicles, coordinating with the general sales manager to order new inventory and quickly dispose of over-aged units.
