About The Role We are seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to join our dynamic team at Hinge. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, operating, and maintaining the cloud services that power our platform. Your work will directly impact millions of users by enabling seamless, reliable, and scalable backend systems that support user interactions and facilitate meaningful connections. You will tackle complex technical challenges, own significant portions of the software stack, and contribute to the overall technical strategy of the company. As part of a diverse cross-functional team, including Product, Data Science, Machine Learning, iOS, Android, and Data Engineering, you will collaborate closely to develop innovative solutions that enhance user growth and monetization. You will also participate in on-call rotations, ensuring system reliability and performance, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence. Qualifications 8+ years of industry experience as a backend or service engineer 6+ years of experience working with cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure Proficiency in Go programming language; Python experience is a plus Expert-level understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and cloud design patterns Strong knowledge of microservices architecture, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure Experience with gRPC/Protobuf, Kafka, OpenTelemetry, and Argo Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and influence cross-team projects Exceptional communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences Proven mentorship skills and a commitment to fostering a collaborative engineering culture Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs for mobile and web clients Build and operate microservices deployed on Kubernetes clusters Architect and implement distributed systems leveraging cloud infrastructure and platform services Participate in the backend on-call rotation, ensuring system reliability and swift incident response Take ownership of technical projects from conception through deployment and success measurement Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product managers, data scientists, and engineers Promote best practices in code quality, system design, and operational excellence Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement Contribute to defining and executing the technical strategy for user growth and monetization initiatives Benefits Competitive salary range of $223,000 to $268,000 per year, based on experience and location 401(k) matching of 100% on the first 10% of pre-tax contributions, up to $10,000 annually Annual Learning & Development stipend of $3,000 after three months of employment Free access to Udemy's extensive online courses platform Paid parental leave covering 20 weeks for both birth and non-birth parents Fertility support including up to $15,000 coverage for fertility treatments through Carrot Monthly date stipend of $100 for employees to enjoy personal or romantic experiences Access to HingeX, our platform for employees and their loved ones to connect and learn Participation in eight Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) supporting diverse communities and interests Equal Opportunity Hinge is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace.
