Barn Keeper (Full-Time or Part-Time) About Painted Ridge FarmsPainted Ridge Farms is a horse boarding facility in Hillsboro, Missouri.Our team takes pride in consistent daily care, clear communication, and a clean, safety-first barn environment for our horses and boarders.Position SummaryBarn Keepers are responsible for the daily care of boarded horses and maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized barn environment.This role follows established checklists and routines and requires strong attention to detail, consistency, and accountability to the team.The Barn Keeper reports to the Barn Operations Leader.Employment Type & Schedule Available roles:Full-time (30hours/week, benefits eligible) and Part-time Shifts:May include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on barn needs Work style:Hands-on, routine-driven role with daily task checklists Key Responsibilities Provide daily care for boarded horses according to barn standards and individual instructions (as applicable) Clean stalls thoroughly (muck, strip as needed, rebedding, tidy fronts/aisles) Feed grain and hay on schedule, following posted feed charts and portion guidelines Refill, dump/scrub, and monitor water buckets/troughs to ensure consistent access to clean water Turnout/bring-in horses as assigned and per barn procedures (including use of blankets, fly masks, and halters when applicable) Maintain cleanliness and organization of barn aisles, tack/feed areas, wash racks, and common spaces Observe horses daily for signs of illness, injury, or behavior changes and report concerns promptly to the Barn Operations Leader Restock supplies (bedding, feed, barn tools) and notify leadership when inventory is low Support basic facility tasks such as sweeping, dumping manure, cleaning waterers, and light barn maintenance as assigned Follow all safety procedures for working around horses, equipment, gates, and fencing Complete assigned checklists accurately and on time; communicate task status and issues to the team Reporting & Team Accountability This position reports to the Barn Operations Leader and works closely with other barn staff to ensure consistent horse care and barn presentation.Reliability, clear communication, and follow-through are essential.The Barn Keeper is expected to complete checklist items as scheduled, report exceptions or concerns promptly, and contribute to a respectful, safety-first team culture.Qualifications Prior horse/barn experience is strongly preferred (boarding, grooming, feeding routines, stall cleaning, safe handling) Comfortable working around horses of varying temperaments; able to follow handling and safety protocols Detail-oriented and able to follow written and verbal instructions (feed charts, care notes, daily checklists) Dependable and punctual with a strong sense of ownership and accountability Able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, physically active environment Basic communication skills; able to escalate concerns quickly and professionally Physical & Work Environment Requirements Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks, including lifting/carrying feed and supplies, pushing wheelbarrows, and stall cleaning Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and work outdoors/in barns in varying weather, temperatures, dust, and typical farm odors Comfortable using common barn tools and equipment safely (pitchforks, brooms, hoses, wheelbarrows) Compensation & Benefits Pay:$16.00-$20.00 per hour, commensurate with experience Benefits:Available for full-time team members working 30hours per week (details provided during hiring) How to Apply Please submit your application/resume and a brief note about your availability (full-time or part-time), relevant horse/barn experience, and why you are interested in this role.Email lauren@prfarmshillsboro.com.Pay:$16.00 - $20.00 per hour Benefits:Dental insurance Employee discount Health insurance Life insurance Paid time off Application Question(s):Do you have experience handling and working around horses?
