Job Title: Behavior Specialist Location: School Based Pay Grade: Licensed Scale Work Calendar: Licensed 200 Day Employee FLSA Status: Exempt GENERAL PURPOSE Under the supervision of the Director of Early Childhood Education, the position of Behavior Specialist will provide direct support to instructional staff and specific students in behavioral and academic strategies. This position assists in providing professional development and consultation in data driven best practices, evidence- based positive strategies for improving individual behavior, classroom management, and school-wide behavior support strategies through coaching and facilitating school- wide team processes at school sites. Main Job Tasks And Responsibilities Provide assistance in development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Assist teachers in planning curriculum, developing individualized lesson plans, and preparing instructional materials that reflect understanding of the learningstyles and needs of assigned students, considering the Virginia Standards of Learning, local requirements and physical, emotional, and academic levels of development Develop and implement a variety of effective teaching and behavioral strategies and techniques to support students that include utilizing assistive technology and specialized equipment Work with students to increase motivation, provide consistent reinforcement to learning, continuously assessing level of functioning, and giving continuous feedback for all learning activities Develop and implement a plan for managing classroom behaviors in accordance with IEP using a variety of positive behavioral supports to include Handle with Care to include collaboration with all instructional staff regarding accommodations and/or modifications to the IEP Participate in the development and implementation of Behavioral Intervention Plan using the Functional Behavior Assessment process Administer, interpret, and report standardized test results for purposes of evaluating educational progress and determine eligibility for special education School Building Responsibilities Complete required reports promptly and accurately. Accept responsibilities outside the classroom as they relate to the school. Assume responsibility for a neat, safe environment for students committed to the teacher's care. Support and demonstrate core values of Stafford County Public Schools Engage in ongoing professional development relevant to position. Respond to written and oral requests for information promptly and thoroughly. Maintain a clean, neat appearance, appropriate to position. Maintain a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree or above from an accredited university Completion of an approved Special Education program Hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education. The work is light work, requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
