Under the general supervision of the Director of Operations the Medical Assistant is responsible for overseeing patient care during appointments in the medical practice. The Medical Assistant is responsible to patients by providing information, services, and assistance. As a Medical Assistant you will be responsible for providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the medical office. Other duties include securing medical records; maintaining medical supplies inventory; performing preventive maintenance to ensure equipment is operational. Duties and Responsibilities: Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit. Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary. Assist with office procedures. Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; keeping patient information confidential. Counsels’ patients by transmitting physician's orders and questions about surgery. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations. Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt. Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications. Serves and protects the practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements. Enhances practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Education Requirements: High School Diploma or GED required. Medical Assistant Certification completion required. Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of patient and client information. BLS Certification Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Training and experience: Two years of medical assistant experience preferred. Data entry skills required. Unless otherwise indicated, two years of current experience within the last year in a comparable job classification required. Ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner. Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English and Spanish. Ability to understand medical/surgical terminology. Ability to pass state/federal background security check. Ability to work effectively within role independently and with other team members. Work Environment Primary work location is in a general office environment, with noise level of office conditions. Physical Requirements Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, turn, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be able to lift up to 50lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, printer, fax and telephone. Requires normal, correctable vision and hearing, and the ability to accurately discern duties as necessary to perform job functions.
