Bookkeeper – Job Description The Bookkeeper supports the financial operations of Creek Engineering by maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and assisting with accounting tasks for the firm’s civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, and septic engineering projects. This role ensures timely and accurate financial data that supports business decisions, client invoicing, vendor payments, and regulatory compliance. The Bookkeeper works closely with the Operations Manager, Chief Engineering Officer, and other team members to handle day-to-day bookkeeping functions in a fast-paced engineering environment. You will manage accounts, prepare reports, and maintain organized financial systems while upholding the highest standards of accuracy and confidentiality. To succeed in this position, you should possess strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a high degree of accuracy in numerical work. You should have solid communication skills and be comfortable working independently on financial tasks while collaborating with the Creek Crew. This part-time role offers flexible scheduling to support work-life balance. The Bookkeeper reports to the Operations Manager or other senior leadership as directed. Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to): Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records using QuickBooks and other accounting tools. Processing accounts payable and accounts receivable, including vendor invoices, client billing, and collections. Performing monthly bank and credit card reconciliations. Assisting with payroll processing, employee expense reimbursements, and related tax reporting. Preparing and generating financial reports, statements, and summaries as requested. Tracking project-related expenses and supporting job-costing activities. Managing and categorizing financial transactions for multiple projects and departments. Providing administrative support to ensure efficient office workflows. Assisting with sales tax, use tax, and other regulatory filings as needed. Supporting year-end activities, audits, and tax preparation by organizing documentation. Maintaining organized digital and physical financial filing systems. Responding to financial inquiries from internal staff, clients, and vendors. Ensuring compliance with company policies, accounting best practices, and applicable regulations. Collaborating with the administrative team on shared tasks such as expense tracking and document management. Other duties as assigned. Requirements · High School Diploma (or equivalent). · Valid Driver’s License. · 2+ years of bookkeeping or general accounting experience. · Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel. · Familiarity with basic accounting principles and financial reporting. · Valid Driver’s License (occasional errands or bank deposits may be required). · Excellent attention to detail and high accuracy in data entry and calculations. · Strong written and verbal communication skills. · Ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion and maintain confidentiality. · Good time management skills and ability to meet deadlines in a part-time capacity. · Eagerness to work flexible part-time hours. · Ability to lift objects up to 30 lbs. and perform light office tasks. · Unafraid of geeks, computers, comic book trivia, gamers, history debates, one-liners, dad jokes, or other generally awesome folks.
