Description Title: Bookstore Manager Position Number: 0097609T Hiring Unit: ADMINISTRATION, AUXIL ENT, BOOKSTORE SYSTEM Location: UH at Manoa Date Posted: 05/08/2026 Closing Date: 05/26/2026, 11:59pm Band: B Salary : salary schedules and placement information Full Time/Part Time: Full-time Month: 11-month Temporary/Permanent: Temporary Duties and Responsibilities (** denotes essential functions) 1.**Manages the daily operations of a large campus bookstore, such as Honolulu Community College, Kapi olani Community College, Leeward Community College, UH Hilo, UH West O ahu, or similar bookstore. 2.**Determines most effective merchandising and optimal use of store layout and design. Ensures proper publicity and good customer relations. 3.**Responsible for proper and accurate recording of all sales transactions on a Point-of-Sale system. Manages and processes website orders. 4.**Supervises processing of departmental requisitions, charge sales, refunds, sales adjustments and preparation of daily sales reports and deposits. 5.**Manages the store's website to offer course materials, a variety of required and educational supplies, convenience items, and other merchandise for the campus community. 6.**Collaborates with Marketing Department on store promotions, events, important notifications, general communications and publicity that pertains to the store. 7.**Prepares store for peak back-to-school periods. 8.**Facilitates and collects course material orders from the campus departments and ensures that timely orders are done to stock the essential books and materials needed for students. 9.**Arranges for student buy-back on campus and participates in UH system-wide consolidated buy-back of used books. Meets with vendor representatives to stay abreast of new adaptations, new editions, and changes in vendor policies. 10.**Responds to customer complaints; initiates store policy or procedure changes, makes recommendations for system wide policy changes. Maintains liaison with department chairpersons and faculty. 11.**Confers with Bookstore Director and constructs master calendar for fiscal year activities & distributes to campus administration. 12.** Serves as working supervisor for regular full-time staff and part-time student assistants. Determines staffing needs for temporary help to augment staff and effectively meet operational demands during busy periods. 13.**Trains employees in optimal customer service to ensure the bookstore maintains a reputation for outstanding service with the campus and community. 14.**Evaluates employee performance, provide additional training, counseling or discipline as needed. Performs all duties in absence of personnel. 15.**Establishes good housekeeping procedures; maintains an attractive, clean atmosphere and keeps equipment in good operating condition. Provide safeguards for adequate security and control to prevent theft and vandalism. 16.May assist with the management of other Bookstores, in the absence of the Manager or other qualified personnel. 17.**Responsible for store's cash, accounting, and fiscal controls. Initiates and develops policies which enable sound management of the store, creating and adhering to budgets in a retail sales environment. 18.**Supervises the timely processing of invoices to ensure prompt payment of bills. Supervises timely return and collection of overstocked merchandise, adhering to the various policies of vendors. Follows-up on delinquent receivables. 19.**Reviews monthly financial reports as they reflect store performance. Implements cost control procedures and/or income generating programs to positively affect store's operations profits. 20.**Analyzes financial performance and responsible for researching variances and providing clear explanations to management on a monthly basis. 21.**Supervises annual physical inventory, prepares listing and reports as requested by auditors, to meet requirements of retail method of inventory. 22.**Analyzes past sales data, anticipates future trends, and prepares the annual store budget. Purchases and maintains inventory control over all books, merchandise, equipment and office supplies. 23.**Reviews inventory levels and cycles and performs purchases, returns, reorders, markdowns and write-offs to maintain optimal inventory levels and assortment. 24.**Travels for purposes of attending meetings, training, providing coverage at other bookstore locations, and other activities. 25.**Works outside of normal business hours including evenings, weekends and holidays to support store operations and inventory management. 26.Confers with manufacturer's representatives to determine type and quantity of products to order and ensure that th
