JOB Building Maintenance Worker – Event Center (FT)Recreation & Economic Vitality Department Salary Range: $16.71 - $27.57 Hourly / $34,756.80 - $57,345.60 AnnuallyFLSA Position Class: Full-Time, Non-ExemptWork Schedule: Swing Shift (Days, Nights, Weekends)Posting Closing Date: May 28, 2026, or until filled Job OverviewThis position is responsible for construction, repair, and maintenance to buildings, event rooms, office space, and outside grounds. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES NOTE: Employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville and meet the needs of the organization, which may result in the assignment of other duties and take precedence over duties described in this job description. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Performs set-up and dismantling of rooms for events such as moving tables, chairs, stages, ramps, and dance floors.Responsible for maintenance, neatness, cleanliness, and safety of facility; including mopping, picking up litter or debris, emptying trash, vacuuming, and related activities.Maintains cleanliness of the facility including restrooms, kitchen, event rooms, and surrounding areas.Assists supervisor in planning and organizing daily schedules. Assists with training and supervising part-time staff.Assists with event planning for room diagram/layout.Assists with sound system, computer equipment, irrigation system, and resetting fire doors; troubleshoots audio and video equipment.Tracks and maintains all supply inventory and equipment; maintains accurate inventory lists for supplies and equipment.Supports operation of heating and cooling system.Prepares snacks, coffee, and drink services for clients. Provides information, rules/regulations, and assistance on use of the facility. Performs other duties as assigned. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Thorough knowledge of building maintenance and repairs.Thorough knowledge in the use of common and specialized hand and power tools.Knowledge of audio and video equipment.Knowledge of general mathematic concepts.Ability to handle manual labor for extended periods of time.Ability to set up and troubleshoot A/V equipment.Ability to use a tape measure to measure/determine room dimensions.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons, customers, vendors, colleagues, and supervisors.Job Related Physical RequirementsThis position involves heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical activity related to this position may require the use of fingers and hands, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word, and to convey detailed or important instructions to others; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for assembly or fabrication of parts at/or within arm’s length, to visually inspect small parts to detect defects, operation of hand and power tools, machines, motor vehicles, or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.Working ConditionsThe employee is subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions including extreme heat and cold and noise; subject to fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, poor ventilation, oils and cutting fluids; and subject to job hazards including exposure to moving mechanical parts. Employee may be required to work on nights, weekends, and holidays.
