Position Overview The Buyer is responsible for procuring construction materials to support project and inventory needs. This role manages the end-to-end purchasing process, from supplier selection and negotiation to order fulfillment, while ensuring cost efficiency, quality, and timely delivery. The Buyer also collaborates with internal teams and maintains compliance with company policies and industry standards. Key Responsibilities Evaluate suppliers, ensuring quality, price, and delivery requirements are met. Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with vendors to achieve the best value for the company. Issue and manage purchase orders, tracking progress through delivery. Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with project managers and warehouse staff to anticipate and fulfill material needs. Maintain accurate records of purchases, supplier agreements, and inventory transactions. Work closely with engineering, project management, and accounting teams to align purchasing with project specifications and timelines. Address supply chain issues such as delays, shortages, or quality concerns by liaising directly with suppliers. Analyze market trends and pricing to identify cost-saving opportunities and new sources. Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies and relevant regulations. Promote a positive and safe working environment and drive process improvements using data analysis. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, or related field preferred. 5 to 15 years of professional purchasing experience, ideally in construction materials or industrial products. Proficiency with ERP systems, purchasing software, and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills. Experience with data mining tools and knowledge of metals manufacturing concepts is preferred. Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently and collaboratively, and deliver results under tight deadlines. Competencies Familiarity with material specifications is a plus. Excellent organizational and recordkeeping abilities. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Initiative-taking, creative, and self-motivated with strong project management abilities. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
