Position Summary We are seeking a hardworking and dependable Cable Placement Laborer / Fiber Optic Technician to assist with the installation of underground fiber optic cable systems in residential neighborhoods and utility easements. This position involves heavy manual labor, cable pulling, conduit work, hand hole installation, terminal mounting, figure-8 cable management, trailer movement, and general fiber construction support. Candidates must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and performing physically demanding tasks daily. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Pull and place fiber optic cables through underground conduit systems Operate and assist with cable puller machines and related placement equipment Perform manual cable pulling operations using hand tools and mechanical equipment Set up, organize, and maintain figure-8 cable layouts during cable placement operations Move, position, and assist with loading/unloading cable trailers and equipment trailers Install and mount fiber terminals, vaults, and hand hole equipment Route, secure, and organize fiber cables within hand holes and conduit pathways Label cables, terminals, and related infrastructure according to company standards Assist with locating and exposing existing underground utilities when necessary Maintain proper cable handling procedures to prevent damage to fiber infrastructure Load, unload, and transport tools, materials, and equipment to job sites Operate basic construction tools and equipment safely Perform site cleanup and restoration after work is completed Follow all OSHA, company safety, and traffic control procedures Work alongside supervisors, drill crews, and splicing technicians to complete projects on schedule Complete daily work reports and documentation as required Physical Requirements Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods Frequent lifting, carrying, pulling, and moving of materials weighing up to 75 lbs Ability to work around moving machinery, trailers, and cable placement equipment safely Ability to work in confined spaces such as hand holes and vaults Ability to stand, kneel, bend, climb, and work on uneven terrain throughout the day Comfortable working outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions Qualifications Previous construction, utility, telecommunications, or fiber installation experience preferred but not required Experience working with underground conduit and cable placement is a plus Experience operating or assisting with cable puller equipment preferred Ability to use hand tools and basic construction equipment Strong work ethic and willingness to learn Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a crew Valid driver’s license preferred Must be able to pass background check and drug screening if required Preferred Skills Knowledge of fiber optic infrastructure and underground utility construction Experience with figure-8 cable management and underground cable placement practices Experience mounting terminals and organizing fiber distribution systems Familiarity with cable labeling standards and documentation Experience with directional boring or underground utility crews is beneficial Work Environment Outdoor construction environment in residential neighborhoods and utility right-of-ways Exposure to dirt, dust, mud, noise, and changing weather conditions Regular interaction with cable trailers, puller machines, and heavy equipment Travel to multiple job sites may be required Compensation & Benefits Competitive hourly pay based on experience Overtime opportunities available Company-provided tools and safety equipment Opportunities for advancement within fiber construction operations Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour Work Location: On the road
