Job Description
Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc. is one of the largest human services providers in California that operates a variety of programs to serve the poor and strives to find permanent solutions to crisis situations by offering clients the tools and resources needed to achieve greater self-reliance and stability in their lives. The Refugee Program supports newly arrived refugee clients by providing core social services and assist with adjustment to a new country. The position of ANSP Case Manager is responsible for providing core services to Afghan refugee clients. Key responsibilities include intake support, case management, referral services, referral for housing access, workforce development support, leading acculturation classes, financial literacy classes, community development activities and providing other core services as needed. This position will report to IRR Associate Director. Responsibilities: Provide educational outreach and case management support under the Afghan Newcomers Support Program (ANSP) to meet out contract goals and expectations. Provide comprehensive intakes to Afghan clients to assess needs, goals, communicate expectations of the ANSP program and establish a strong, supportive relationship with the client. Provide direct services for Afghan refugee clients including provide referrals and resources for workforce development, housing access, education placement, health care access, financial assistance and other items as needed. Conduct in-home/house visits with clients to assess placement needs, verify strategic goals and deliverables for each client. Educate ANSP clients on how to access core services to ensure clients can attain and maintain self-sufficiency beyond the ANSP program. Support with the case management for core services outlined in the ANSP contract including a health department screening, application for services with Social Security Administration, public benefits, medical care, school enrollment, and all other required services. Serve as liaison with government agencies, nonprofits and other stakeholders. Create intake and assessment for Afghan clients’ progress. Participates in outreach programs; represent IRR and ANSP program at community meetings and with other stakeholders. Maintain up-to-date programmatic knowledge, data of all services (health department, social security, public school system, etc.) involving ANSP clients. Maintain and develop communication and relationships with key stakeholders of services providers e.g. community partners, nonprofits, public/private partners and others. Provide information and referrals that are culturally and financially appropriate to assist clients in maintaining basic needs and reaching self-sufficiency. Document all services provided to clients in accordance with ANSP agreement and IRR’s policies and procedures. Support Associate Director with data entry and data management of Afghan refugee clients through the process of reception and placement. Coordinate with Refugee Resettlement staff on other client needs that arise and make referrals accordingly. Ensure that program goals and outcomes are achieved. Attend weekly IRR meeting, R&P team meetings and trainings as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; or an AA Degree and three years of case management experience with refugee and/or immigrant populations; or an AA Degree and three years’ experience working in refugee resettlement and/or refugee and immigrant populations. Computer proficiency with Excel, Word, Adobe, Microsoft Office Fluency in English and at least one of the following languages: Dari, Pashto, Urdu, Farsi or Armenian. Analyze and resolve problems with sound judgement with the interest of Afghan refugee clients. Plan short- and long- range activities to execute deliverables. Maintain accurate and orderly records and documentation pertaining to refugee clients. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, nonprofits and other agencies working with similar populations. Organized and direct several activities. Display cultural sensitivity, tact, and responsiveness in various situations and needs. Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
