Job Description
JOB The Parks Maintenance Worker I is responsible for executing the best maintenance practices of city parks and departmental facilities. Parks Maintenance Workers perform duties and tasks that require a high degree of physical activity and effort. Team members work outdoors and are exposed to a variety of extreme weather and working conditions.Essential Job Functions Models Coppell’s Core Competencies and Champions Coppell’s Culture. Performs best maintenance practices of sports fields, recreational facilities, park areas, and municipal grounds. Performs general landscape maintenance duties that include cultivation, installation, and caring for plants, trees, shrubs, and flowers. Conducts mowing, trimming, edging, trash pickup, fence building, facilities maintenance, and cleaning. Inspects, cleans, and maintains equipment and tools in a safe operating order. Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries to Parks Crew Leader and/or Parks Operations Supervisor. Performs daily rounds of facilities and pavilions to pick up litter, empty trash receptacles, and inspect areas for damage/vandalism. Applies granular pre-emergent products and fertilizers to park grounds, operates and performs minor maintenance on equipment and tools used. Repairs and maintains park irrigation systems. Performs minor carpentry, plumbing, welding, and maintenance duties. Prepares facilities for use by community groups and organizations. Supports special events by setting up, tearing down, and other miscellaneous duties. Provides excellent customer service. Performs special assignments or other related duties as requested, required, instructed, and trained. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Experience High School Diploma/G.E.D. Equivalent. Valid State of Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record. No experience requiredKnowledge/Skills/Abilities Knowledge in the operation and maintenance of irrigation systems, mechanical and small engine repairs. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
