JOB SUMMARY The Medical Assistant at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for providing patient care, including escorting patients to exam rooms, conducting interviews, measuring vital signs, performing treatments, and administering medication as directed. The role requires accurate and efficient recordkeeping/documentation, scheduling patient testing and referrals, and ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines. The Medical Assistant must possess good written and verbal communication skills, excellent organizational abilities, and the flexibility to respond to rapidly changing patient needs. JOB FUNCTIONS Patient Care Assure smooth, timely patient flow by escorting patients to exam rooms. Interview patient, measure vital signs, and document all information in patient’s chart/electronic health record (EHR). Performs treatments, tests, or procedures. Administers medication as directed. Assist Physician/Nurse Practitioner as directed. Recordkeeping/Documentation: Accurately and efficiently reports/documents patient care/ status/information in medical record. Receives patient record(s) from external sources (Diagnostic Testing, Physicians, Consults, etc.) and refers to Physician/Nurse Practitioner for review. Customer Service: Responsible for screening and handling incoming telephone calls as directed. Schedule patient testing, consult, and/or referrals. Provides patient/family teaching necessary for continuing care during and after discharge. Responsible for maintaining supplies necessary for quality patient care. Education: Participate in performance improvement activities (EXCEL). Regulatory: Adheres to NMHS/NMMC and Departmental Policies/Procedures/Guidelines. Complies with applicable State/Federal regulations/laws/policies/procedures/guidelines. QUALIFICATIONS Education High School Diploma or GED Equivalent or equivalent. Required Licenses and Certifications National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)-NCTT. . Upon Hire. Required Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)-AAMA. . Upon Hire. Required Work Experience 1-3 years. Minimum of 1 year experience in a healthcare related field. Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities Knowledge of various medical terminology; required Knowledge of Electronic Heath Record Systems; preferred Must maintain CPR Certification (American Heart Association-AHA); required Good written and verbal communication skills; required Excellent organizational skills; required Working knowledge of basic computers and computer software; required Interaction with a patient population of all ages ranging from neonates to geriatrics, required Must demonstrate professionalism and personal integrity Must organize and prioritize work flow Must be consciences, flexible, and open to change Assures compliance with regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines Works independently as well as team /group setting Must have extensive contact with: patients, family members, RN’s, NP’s, Physicians, and other RHC staff members Must have good written and verbal communication skills Must reflect a positive, caring attitude toward clients, patients, staff and the public we serve Physical Demands A thorough completion of this section is needed for compliance with legal standards such as the Americans with Disabilities Act.
