Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Certified Medical Interpreter to facilitate clear and accurate communication between healthcare providers and patients from diverse linguistic backgrounds. This vital role ensures that language barriers do not hinder access to quality medical care, promoting equitable health outcomes. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical terminology, interpretation techniques, and confidentiality standards, all while demonstrating exceptional communication skills. Responsibilities Provide real-time interpretation for medical consultations, examinations, and procedures across multiple languages, including American Sign Language (ASL) when applicable. Accurately translate medical records, patient histories, and documentation review to support healthcare providers’ decision-making processes. Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy and confidentiality at all times. Assist with social work-related interactions, including child protective services referrals or family support discussions, ensuring sensitive communication is handled appropriately. Collaborate with hospital staff, medical records personnel, and social workers to facilitate smooth communication flows within healthcare environments. Support interpretation during hospital admissions, discharge planning, and follow-up appointments to ensure comprehensive understanding for patients and families. Document interpretation sessions accurately when required for legal or medical record purposes. Skills Multilingual proficiency in at least two languages; fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is highly desirable. Strong translation and interpretation skills with a deep understanding of medical terminology and procedures. Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and empathetically. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. Experience working in hospital settings or with medical records is preferred. Familiarity with social work practices, child protective services protocols, and hospital workflows enhances effectiveness in this role.
