Job Description
Looking for something different than your typical skilled nursing facility? Merced Behavioral Center is a 96-bed skilled nursing facility specializing in psychiatric and behavioral health care. Our residents are adults living with serious mental illness who require long-term support, compassion, structure, and treatment in a safe and therapeutic environment. At Merced Behavioral Center, we believe our residents deserve dignity, belonging, and hope. Many of the individuals we serve not only struggle with mental illness, but also the stigma and isolation that often comes with it. We are looking for CNAs who are compassionate, dependable, patient, and willing to be part of a team that truly makes a difference. This is not a “typical CNA job.” While the position may involve less heavy physical care than a traditional skilled nursing facility, it requires patience, emotional intelligence, professionalism, consistency, and the ability to work with individuals experiencing significant psychiatric and behavioral health challenges. Our CNAs are an essential part of the treatment team and play a major role in supporting residents in their daily routines, independence, emotional well-being, structure, and overall quality of life. Why Join Our Team? Specialized psychiatric and behavioral health experience. Supportive and teamwork-focused environment. New graduate friendly. Opportunities for growth and leadership. Meaningful work that impacts lives every day. NOC shift differential available. Responsibilities Include: Assisting residents with activities of daily living. Supporting resident independence and dignity. Observing and reporting behavioral or medical changes to licensed nurses. Maintaining a safe, calm, and therapeutic environment. Assisting with resident routines and structured programming. Documentation in PointClickCare EMR (training provided). Responding appropriately during behavioral or crisis situations. Requirements: Current California CNA certification in good standing. Government-issued ID and Social Security card. Ability to communicate effectively in English. Basic computer skills. Ability to remain calm and think independently during difficult situations. Ability to work respectfully with both residents and staff.
