Certified Surgical Tech (1099) General Surgery Pay rate : $33.00 per hour (1099) Job location : Mike O Callaghan Military Medical Center (MOMMC) Nellis AFB, NV, United States. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, for General Surgery Clinic and Scope days. Federal holidays and down days are not considered work days. When scheduled to work in the operating room (OR) for General Surgery Clinic surgeons, contractor will report to OR at 0630 and will be relived at 1530. Contractor shall not work over 40 hours per week. Shifts are normally scheduled for a 9 hour period to include a 60 minute lunch break. In no instances will the HCW be required to provide services in excess of 40 hours per week. Duty Hours: Clinic Hours: Monday through Friday, . Operating Room (OR) Hours 0630 -1530. Contractor must attend the 0650 morning meeting, shift will start at 0700 and will be relieved at 1530 from the Operating Room staff. On-Call Hours : On-call requirements for each labor category are as follows: N/A Overage Hours: Overage hours for each labor category are as follows: N/A Job Description General Knowledge : Must have knowledge of the fundamentals of anatomy and physiology; principles of asepsis and sterile techniques; preparing and storing surgical sets and packs, surgical instrumentation, and equipment; OR and anesthesia procedures; pathology as it applies to specimen care and handling; basic microbiology and infection control principles; basic surgical pharmacology; sterilizing and disinfecting procedures; surgical and anesthesia complications and their treatment; hospital and OR environmental hazards and safety procedures; handling and storage of compressed gases; basic medical material procedures; basic medical administrations procedures; legal aspects of preoperative care and medical ethics; roles and qualifications of surgical team members; and basic clinical functions. o Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support : BLS is Required. Certifications must be through American Heart Association or client guidelines. Members must present proof of current certification(s) through American Health Association or client. Computer-based training does not constitute fulfilling the training requirements. Must maintain currency at NO cost to the government. Certified Endoscope Reprocessor Certification preferred but not required. Experience: Three years of related experience in an accredited health care hospital and minimum three years of surgical scrub experience. Having familiarity with, and can assist in, robotic procedures/surgeries preferred. o Board Certification : N/A o Licensure/Registration : Certified as a Surgical Technologist (CST), Certification from the National board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or certified as a Tech-in-surgery (TS-C) from the National Center for Competency Testing or possess a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) certification as a surgical technician, surgical technologist or Operating Room Technician. HCW Duties : The duties for the HCW are as follows but not limited to: In accordance with the procedural physician's preference and established standards, ensures presence of all instruments and equipment, and supplies necessary for colorectal procedures; inspects all instruments to ensure all required items are available. Responsible for care and handling of all equipment used. Maintains neat, orderly, and safe work area and practices economy in the use of all sterile supplies Be knowledgeable about professional and practice issues related to the field of colorectal procedures Provides and maintains a safe environment for the patient and staff by complying with facility requirements and safety standards Assists the physician and RN during diagnostic, therapeutic, and emergency procedures. Cleans colorectal area and helps to clean procedure and clinic room following colorectal procedures, properly disposes of contaminated supplies and equipment. Disposes of biohazardous waste per infection control guidelines Performs high level disinfection (HLD) of endoscopes in the instrument
