The CCO will be a key executive leader responsible for safeguarding the financial strength of the organization and ensuring that credit risk management aligns with the company's mission of expanding access to capital in a responsible and sustainable manner. This role is pivotal in shaping the credit function, evolving credit philosophy, and managing risk across a diverse portfolio that includes small business, consumer, and climate lending. The successful candidate will have a senior leadership background in credit and portfolio risk, with a strong foundation in commercial underwriting and credit policy governance. They must demonstrate sound judgment with nontraditional borrowers, special assets experience, and a collaborative approach to integrating with various teams. Key responsibilities for the CCO include establishing and maintaining loan policies, underwriting standards, and internal controls to support strategic growth while safeguarding asset quality. The role also involves overseeing portfolio monitoring, managing special assets, and ensuring compliance with regulatory expectations. The ideal candidate will be a change leader, capable of driving process improvements and shaping the company's credit strategy. They should be a warm, high-EQ people leader, adept at building and developing a high-performing credit risk management team. The CCO will be expected to contribute to organizational budgeting, and planning processes, and act as a steward of the company's brand, values, and performance standards. The position requires a mission-first credit lens, with a focus on distinguishing appropriate risk from unsound lending practices, and a commitment to building a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace.
