Faculty Description University of Colorado Anschutz Department: Department of Psychiatry, Division of Community Population and Public Mental Health Job Title: Chief of Psychiatry, Pueblo Position #00847725 – Requisition #39902 Job Summary: The Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP) is a 516-bed acute care psychiatric hospital that provides inpatient behavioral health services for adults, adolescents and geriatric patients. CMHHIP is a forensic hospital that serves individuals with pending criminal charges who require evaluations of competency, individuals who have been found to be incompetent to proceed (restoration treatment) and individuals found to be not guilty by reason of insanity by Colorado's criminal courts. CMHHIP is located in southern Colorado on a 300-acre campus. This position will be required to be in person in Pueblo, CO and is not located on Anschutz Medical Campus . This position is considered full-time (1.0 FTE). Key Responsibilities This position provides supervision and leadership to physicians and mid-level providers in the delivery of care and is responsible for overall quality of care provided to patients. Examples of Work Performed The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: Provides general supervision for the CMHHIP Psychiatry department, including monitoring the exercise of privileges to ensure that all individuals in the department are practicing within the scope of privileges granted. Monitors performance of staff with privileges including re-evaluation of each member at the time of reappointment. Recommends specific clinical privileges for each staff member, taking into consideration any input at CMHHIP departmental meetings. Supervises, evaluates and develops physician and mid-level provider staff. Handles daily supervisory issues for psychiatric supervisors, physicians and mid-level providers such as approval of leave, guidance and mentoring, and general supervision of work. Participates in the administration of the department, including cooperation with staff and administration, in matters such as personnel decisions, preparation of reports and any other cooperative matters. Serves as a member of the MEC (Medical Executive Committee) and provides guidance on the overall medical policies for staff at the hospital; makes specific recommendations and suggestions regarding the department; integrates department into primary functions of the hospital. Implements all relevant actions taken by the MEC. Develops and implements departmental programs for Performance Measure/Performance Improvement, to include retrospective patient care review, ongoing monitoring of practice, credentials review and privileges delineation, and utilization review. Provides staff education, instruction and mentoring. Provides other duties as requested including but not limited to direct patient care.
