OPEN UNTIL FILLED PRIMARY PURPOSE: Effect the efficient operation of child nutrition routines and practice associated with a busy child nutrition operation and smoothly run office. QUALIFICATIONS: Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent Special Knowledge/Skills Accurate typing and ten-key skills, familiarity with computer applications such as spreadsheets and word processing Knowledge and use of commercial food service equipment Communicate and work effectively with school district personnel, subordinates, co-workers, students, parents, and community groups Work individually and as part of a team Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Publisher and Excel Proficient skills in typing, word processing, data entry, scanning and file maintenance Ability to multi-task and prioritize Work Environment Tools/Equipment Used : Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals; protection equipment required or recommended: sanitary gloves, protective gloves, non-skid shoes, safety glasses, hot pads, arm protectors, nuisance masks, aprons, hair net Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent walking and standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching Lifting: Occasional exertion of a heavy force of up to 50 pounds and/or frequent exertion of a medium force up to 40 pounds Environment: Exposure to cold working conditions for periods up to 15 minutes; exposure to hot working conditions for lengthy periods of time; exposure to noise requiring workers to shout to be heard above the ambient noise level; work areas are often filled with chemical fumes and cooking odors and vapors; may work prolonged or irregular hours; must have reliable transportation as this position requires daily districtwide travel Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress Regular attendance is an essential function Usual Work Hours : 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Minimum Experience: Three or more years in school system nutrition or in general nutritional and food service responsibilities is preferred MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Write and distribute memos, letters, reports and other forms of correspondence as requested. Serve as receptionist to the public and professional clientele. Must be able to maintain a helpful, friendly attitude while under extreme pressure. Resolve problems in a timely fashion and consistently keeps track of details. Plan, implement, coordinate and review child nutrition programs in assigned schools. Analyze child nutrition operations for cost effectiveness and works with child nutrition personnel and school administrators to implement improvements and necessary changes in food preparation, service, menus, facilities and equipment. Assure adherence of child nutrition programs to federal, state and local laws and regulations and district requirements concerning such matters as sanitation, safety, free and reduced-price meals for needy students, and nutritional standards of various meal programs. Assess and recommend adjustments in staff time in accordance with staffing formulas and approving additional time or overtime for the child nutrition staff when needed. Develop and review work schedules and production standards for the child nutrition staff. Evaluate the technical performance of child nutrition managers and counseling child nutrition employees. Assure proper utilization and care of child nutrition equipment and supplies. Make recommendations about school child nutrition facilities and equipment. Assure that application processing and meal collections handling in the free and reduced-price meal program for needy students meets current government regulations. Attend meeting of district personnel, student groups, advisory councils, community representatives, parents, and the general public in order to obtain and provide information and discuss problems, regulations, procedures, standards, complaints, plans, improvements and other matters concerning school child nutrition programs. Prepare required reports on child nutrition operations. Ability to run a child nutrition operation in the absence of the Child Nutrition Manager.
