Job Description
The position of Children’s Ministry Director at Mars Hill Presbyterian Church was established to provide support to the Christian Growth Ministry and to ensure the effective development and oversight of ministries for and with children from infancy through elementary school. The Children’s Ministry Coordinator will report directly to the Pastor, ensuring alignment with the overall mission and ministry of the church. The Pastor will provide input into the annual performance evaluation, while the Session is responsible for the terms and conditions of employment. Position Requirements At least two (2) years of college credit in a related field. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is desired. Experience in directing a vibrant church children’s ministry is preferred. In addition to the skills and knowledge specified, the person filling this position must have a close personal relationship with Jesus, a heart for His mission, and an ability to develop trusting relationships with children and their families while developing strong working skills with individuals and groups. Leadership skills which exemplify a strong Christian faith, strong organizational skills, and communication skills are also necessary. Principal Accountabilities: · Foster the Christian growth of children and their families through well-prepared weekly classes and special events. · Assist in creating opportunities in our church and community that encourage children’s spiritual development. · Build relationships with children and their families that encourage growth in their Christian faith. Responsibilities and Duties for Children’s Ministry: · Works as a member of a unified team with the Pastor, Christian Growth Ministry, Nursery Worker (when there is one), and Preschool Director · Ensures the safe arrival to classrooms after children’s message and provides quality teaching during the 10:30 a.m. service. · Train volunteers on safety protocols and ensure they are followed. · Recruits and trains adult and teen volunteers for Sunday School and children's events. · Supervises, supports, and schedules volunteers in the Nursery when needed. · Purchases necessary supplies for weekly and special events and submits paperwork for reimbursement. · Assists in setting up and maintaining directories and attendance for the children; ensuring parents are receiving communication through email, social media, and other means. · Builds relationships with families in the church and community. Provides resources that help families foster faith development. · Establishes a VBS Coordinating Team and leads VBS planning and execution. · Helps plan and develop special family and community outreach events including items such as special worship services, events, and Christmas Eve activities, etc. · Encourages the congregation to "Reach the Next Generation." · Attends meetings where their input and reporting of the Youth Programs need discussion.
