Accountability Objective: This position has the responsibility and accountability to provide care related services consistent with written assignments or as delegated by the Charge Nurse and/or Nursing Administration. All services are provided in a manner that enables the resident to maintain dignity, respect and individuality. The Non Certified Nursing Assistant maintains a ‘homelike environment’ for the residents, protects and promotes resident rights. Reporting Relationships: This position reports to their mentor and/or charge nurse. Qualifications: On-the-job training provided In good standing with Nurse Aide Abuse Registry Upon the completion of initial orientation process at Arbor Springs the Non Certified Nursing Assistant will begin Phase One of Floor Orientation. Performance Requirements: Demonstrate Problem Solving Skills, identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathering and processing information to develop alternative solutions Demonstrates Excellent Customer Service, Manages difficult or emotional resident, family member, and employee situations in a positive manner, responding promptly to their request for service and assistance, while soliciting feedback to improve service. Carries out all duties in accord with the facility mission and philosophy. Demonstrates knowledge of and respect for the right, dignity and individuality of each resident in all interactions. Appreciates the importance of maintaining confidentiality of resident and facility information. Demonstrates honesty and integrity at all times in the care and use of resident and facility property. Able to follow written and verbal directions. Able to effectively communicate with staff members and residents through verbal and/or written means. Knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures of facility. Able to locate nearest exit, to understand and respond to written or oral instructions in case of an emergency. Sufficient mobility, and strength to move freely through the building, to assure resident safety at all times and to assist, transfer or otherwise move residents of facility out of danger in case of an emergency. Demonstrates respect for co-workers and responds to needs of residents by complying with facility policies on attendance and punctuality and dress code. Able to arrive and begin work on time and to report for duty as scheduled on all shifts, weekends and holidays. Working knowledge and ability to comply with facility policies and procedures for workplace safety including infection control procedures, application of universal precautions for blood borne pathogens, use of personal protective equipment and handling of hazardous materials. Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks/responsibilities and complete duties/projects as assigned. Able to interact effectively with individuals who are cognitively and/or physically impaired. Able to carry out essential functions of this job (with or without reasonable accommodation) without posing specific, current risk of substantial harm to health and safety of self and others. Physical, Psychological Demands: Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress of the position. Examples of these stresses include, but not limited to; shift rotation, weekend and holiday duty, unusual or impaired behavior by residents, family reactions to having a loved one in the nursing home, death and dying, oversight of state surveyors, ombudsman and federal officials, presence of consultants and attorneys, and variable involvement of medical staff. Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies. Must be able to work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility. May be required to lift medical supplies and or equipment 50-300 lbs. with the assistance of another person or a mechanical lift. Essential functions are carried out in a variety of positions including standing and sitting. To assist the nursing staff must be able to move freely through the building. Stooping, bending, lifting and carrying, as well as other physical demands may be required as described.
