Job Description
Coach / Assistant Coach The Geneva School is a mission-driven school established in 1993. Our mission is to provide students in grades K4–12 an extraordinary education, by means of an integrated curriculum, pedagogy and culture, both distinctly classical and distinctively Christian, that pursues goodness, truth, and beauty in all spheres of life, while viewing these spheres as elements of divinely ordered whole. Further, Geneva seeks to instill in students a desire to love beauty, think deeply, and pursue Christ’s calling. Hired by and subject to the supervision of the Athletic Director or Youth Sports Director, the Coach is an exempt position. The coach, in a formational and relational role, models Christ-like behavior within The Geneva School community as he or she studies, re-imagines, and teaches within the Christian, liberal arts tradition. I. Essential Duties Specific Job Responsibilities Model Christlike character and uphold the mission, vision, and statement of faith of the school in all interactions with students, families, and colleagues. Plan, organize, and conduct practices that develop students’ athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. Instruct student-athletes in the fundamentals of the sport, emphasizing effort, integrity, humility, and respect. Prepare teams for competition, including developing game strategies, supervising warm-ups, and making in-game coaching decisions. Supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices, games, and team activities to ensure safety and appropriate conduct. Foster a positive team culture that encourages growth in character, perseverance, and servant leadership. Communicate regularly and professionally with student-athletes, parents, athletic director, and school administration. Assist with equipment management, uniforms, facilities setup, and care of school property. Support the spiritual development of student-athletes through prayer, mentorship, and integration of biblical principles into coaching. Attend required meetings, training sessions, and professional development as assigned. Assist with administrative duties as needed, including record-keeping, eligibility monitoring, and coordination of travel or events. Enforce school and athletic department policies, rules, and expectations consistently and fairly. Personal Profile Required Skills and Experience Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience relevant to coaching, athletics, or education. Demonstrate prior experience coaching or assisting with athletic programs at the youth, middle school, or high school level. Possess a clear understanding of, and commitment to, the Christian faith and the classical approach to education as practiced at The Geneva School. Exhibit strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
