The Adaptive Climbers Festival (ACF) is looking for a part‑time, unpaid Communications and Website Design Intern to help us reimagine and improve our website as we continue to grow an inclusive, community‑centered adaptive climbing festival. About the Role This internship is a hands‑on opportunity to contribute to a mission‑driven nonprofit while building real‑world experience in accessible web design and content strategy as well as content creation for emails and other communications. The intern will collaborate closely with ACF's: Communications Director Development Director Other members of the ACF Director team* Together, you’ll help redesign the ACF website to better serve our community of climbers with disabilities, volunteers, donors, and partners. You may also be asked to occasionally help schedule emails or update regular communications with accurate information. What You’ll Work On Reviewing and improving ACF’s current website structure, layout, and content Helping implement WCAG‑aligned accessibility best practices Supporting content updates and recommendations that prioritize clarity, inclusion, and usability Collaborating across teams to ensure the site reflects ACF’s mission, values, and community Scheduling and updating regular outbound communications regarding registration, clinics, packing lists, and other vital information for participants Assisting volunteers and event organizers at the info booth during the 2026 Adaptive Climbers Festival Learning how nonprofit communications, fundraising, and accessibility intersect in real projects Why This Internship Is Different This role offers meaningful experience in web accessibility for a nonprofit organization where accessibility is not an afterthought - it’s core to everything we do. You’ll gain: Practical exposure to WCAG guidelines and accessible design principles Direct experience designing for users with diverse disabilities Portfolio‑worthy work with real impact Mentorship from experienced nonprofit communications and development professionals Who We’re Looking For Interest in web design, UX, accessibility, communications, and digital storytelling Familiarity with basic web platforms (Squarespace, WordPress, or similar) is a plus Passion for inclusion, adaptive sports, and community‑centered design Ability to work independently while collaborating with a small team Members of the disability community are especially encouraged to apply Role Details Unpaid, part‑time internship (all the ACF Directors are unpaid as well) Flexible schedule Fully remote with the exception of attending the 2026 Adaptive Climbers Fest in Red River Gorge, Kentucky (Oct. 15-18) Ideal for students, early‑career professionals, or career‑changers seeking hands‑on accessibility experience Must attend the Adaptive Climbers Festival.
